Complaint: Took vehicle for inspection mid to late June 2014. Told required repairs would cost about $1700. I said that the price was high but if its necessary please do. By the end of the day,I was told to pick up and repairs were complete. Was charged about $1500. The same day (within an hour after picking up my vehicle) I noticed rattling and Q&A-4 second shimmy after driving over a manhole. Returned the vehicle three next day and waited over an hour and a half for check and repair. The mechanic drove my vehicle to see if he could experience a shimmy but said that he didn't but noticed a steering issue which took another half hour to fix. I was not charged. Later that same day, I experienced the shimmy again after going over another manhole. There were noises (screeching) when turning and driving over anything metal. I had already missed two workdays, so, I thought that maybe the problems will work themselves out. After a week and a half, I'd noticed a burning rubber smell for a few days. My plans to return the vehicle was interrupted by a sudden family loss. After another week and one half, I noticed that the steel belts of my inner front tires were showing. I took the vehicle back and was told that I needed an alignment and that I would be serviced with new tires hopefully by the next day. I decided to keep the vehicle and wait for the call. As I finished running errands, I attempted to park and the gears wouldn't shift pass drive. Fortunately I was a few blocks from Lennix Works so I returned. I was told to leave it and it would be checked the next day. No on called and lines were constantly busy. I stopped in about 2pm and was told that they had to retrospect it to find the cause and should expect a call later.no call by 5:15pm. Again, I returned there and was told that I should leave it overnight again. The next day, late morning, I was told that I could take it with a temp.fix. As soon as I left and tried to park, the gears wouldn't shift again. Angry that my vehicle is unsafe.
Desired Settlement: Fix the vehicle without additional cost and in a timely manner.

First, we regret that this person has been unsatisfied with the services we have provided. As stated, we did do extensive repairs on the vehicle in question, and did them at a cost below the original estimate given to the customer. Vehicle needed 4 tires to pass inspection and customer chose to put on used tires. She was informed that her vehicle needed an alignment, and chose not to do so. The vehicle was test driven, as required by the State Inspection process and there was no “shimmy* or any unusual sound at that time.
The customer picked up her vehicle the same day appointment was scheduled, after work/inspection was finished. Sometime later that day, we received a call from her, explaining that she had “gone over a manhole" and “now vehicle was making rattling noise and shimmying”. We told the customer to come the next day and we would check things out.
She returned the next day, and we drove vehicle/inspected for problem. No unusual noise or shimmy was noticed when driven. The customer was not charged.
About 2 weeks later, customer returned with her vehicle yet another time. She had no appointment scheduled, but was unhappy with the way used front tires were wearing. She still had not had alignment performed on vehicle. We purchased 2 more tires, and replaced 2 front tires at no charge. Again, she was informed to get her vehicle aligned.
A few weeks after that time, this customer returned once more without a scheduled appointment, stating that she was experiencing difficulty shifting her vehicle. After diagnostics, she was informed that she needed a new transmission shift cable and that we had made a temporary repair to get her on the road that day. The transmission shift cable was not part of any original repair, nor is it a part of the State Inspection procedure. The cable simply wore out after 126,000 miles (wear and tear). Customer did not want to order new part, and again was not charged for the visit or repairs.
We also made a road call to this lady’s house at a later date to assist with trouble shifting, and reattached shift cable for the second time at no charge. She was again informed that the transmission shift cable needed replacement, and again declined.
Regretfully, I must inform the BBB of the unsafe practices of Lennix Auto Works. I had taken my vehicle in for an annual emissions and inspections check. I later received a call stating that costs may be high for the vehicle to pass inspection. I told the gentleman that I didn't expect to pay so much but do what was necessary to get it fixed. I paid the costs and to my vehicle. After a few hours of running errands, I noticed some differences. I drove over a manhole cover and my vehicle shimmied for about 3-4 seconds afterward. I thought it unusual but assumed that perhaps some kinks may need to be worked out. The same day it happened again and I noticed some rattling. Also, when I parked on my hill, I engage my emergency brake, as I always do, and could barely lift it. So, I contacted Lennix and was told that the behavior of the brakes was normal; yet, I should bring my vehicle back by 8:30am to get looked at. I arrived at 8:25 but had to wait for the mechanic who had worked on it the previous day. He arrived about a half an hour later and then took about another half hour to get situated. I told a young man at the counter that I needed to get to work by 10:30am. The mechanic eventually checked underneath the vehicle, had another mechanic take a look, did something, lowered the vehicle, and took it for a test drive. He came back and took it back to have the other mechanic look at it again. They put it back on a rack and mentioned something about an old bar that seemed to have been recently replaced by someone else. I told him that within the last 2 years, they have been the only ones working on my vehicle. The second mechanic said that he needed to adjust something because there was too much play in the steering wheel and that I MAY need an alignment. This was the first time that I've been told this simply because each time I've had tires replaced, an alignment had been done. So, I had no idea of what problems would occur without one. The initial mechanic said that they didn't have the machine that would/could do an alignment. About a week later, my family experienced a tremendously sudden loss. I didn't get around to any vehicle issues. Yet, about a another week later, I noticed a burning of rubber smell. A couple of days later, I saw that the front tires were badly balding. I took my vehicle back to Lennix and was told that I really needed an alignment and that ***** would order two more tires. He was not certain when he could get them but he took my name and phone number and would contact me. However, later the same day, I went to pull into a parking lot and the gears would not go out of drive. Because I was just a few blocks away, I returned to Lennix. Most of the mechanics had gone home but one. He had me pull against a wall, put on the emergency brake, see if I could turn off the vehicle to take out the keys. I did so and was told that someone would look at it the next day. This being the only household vehicle caused me to use public transportation to get to work the next day. Before leaving work, I attempted to contact Lennix regarding the progress. Each time I'd gotten a busy signal. So, I went directly there after work. I was told by ***** that he thought that the problem was in the shifter rod and joint. One of the guys put on a temporary fix, but he wanted to look further to see what caused it. I asked if I would know something by the end of the day and ***** told me yes. After a few hours and before the mechanics were to leave for the day, I decided to walk back to Lennix Auto Works. I was told by ***** that he didn't get a chance to look at it. I still needed tires and they should be in the next day. I told him that I needed a vehicle and that this was my one and only. He said that he gets in at 7:30am and that he would personally work on it. I called and was told that the tires were being put on, the had a temporary fix to allow the gears to shift and that ***** was going to get an alignment that would cost $89. I thought that the alignment cost was high so said that I could get cheaper. He said that I should get it today because he couldn't guarantee the tires would hold up. I said that I would and went to get the vehicle on my lunch break. I live about two blocks away. I drove home and shifted to park BUT, my vehicle shifted to neutral and wouldn't go beyond. So, because I live on a hill and would need to go up a hill to get it back, I kept it in park and engaged the emergency brake and called Lennix. *****, who answered the phone said that he would send someone to me. About 7 minutes later, two guys came to help. One was the mechanic who did the work during the annual inspection and the other was an attendant who was present when I initially took my vehicle in for the gear malfunctioning. The mechanic wanted me to either keep my foot on the brake while the attendant goes underneath or he would get in and hold his foot on the brake while the attendant goes underneath. I was getting out and the vehicle seemed to move forward. The attendant said that he was not going under if the vehicle was moving but the mechanic said that it would be ok if he held his foot on the brake. They indicated that the mechanic wouldn't fit under. So, with plastic ties in his hand, the attendant was able to shift the gear into park underneath while putting on the ties. I asked if it would hold because I needed to get back to work. Both said that they couldn't guarantee that. Not, wanting to take a chance, I decided that I would use public transportation back to work. I missed three hours of work that day. I used public transportation for the next day. I grew extremely angry because I was given the vehicle in an extremely unsafe condition. Instead of letting me know that the temporary fix could result on more serious issues, it was simply given back and was told what it may need. I am not a mechanic. The mechanic should have expressed the risks! I was never nasty nor rude. I was very patient. Yet, I felt as though they didn't want me there. I placed a complaint to the BBB. I was informed that the business would get the notice in a couple of days. Because I hadn't heard from either, I called back two days later and asked how much would it cost to complete the repair. A woman checked and said that the part would cost $74.00 and labor about $138.00 plus taxes; but the would need to order the part which would arrive two more days later. I agreed to have the work done. During which I had no use of my vehicle. I went to take the vehicle in and was told to take back the vehicle because of the BBB report. They refused to do any work on my vehicle.
