Complaint: Hi,I took my 2009 ****** do the dealer where I purchased it because my ABS light on the dash stayed on and I didn't have brake lights( a major safety concern). The dealership concluded that this was because I had a ****** hitch wire harness, this without any diagnostics performed. They said that the wire connections were corroded and that they soldered them to fix it at $234.54. Less than two months later I had the same problem, I unwrapped the connections and they weren't soldered like they claimed to have done. I called the dealer and they ignored my complaint of the non solder and said they "wanted an opportunity to get it right" They said I needed a Toyota wire harness at an additional $149.80. Now after $384.34 that I have paid I have the same issues. I called and asked for a refund and they said they would only return the $149.80.

Desired Settlement: I believe the problems lies with a bare or loose wire and am afraid they'll want more money to fix it before releasing my truck

In response to a Consumer Complaint submitted on July 22, 2013 by **** ** *********:

On March 28, 2013, Bob Massie Toyota repaired wiring that was done at another garage by heat shrinking and adding wire connectors to the existing wiring. Also informed the customer that to properly correct the concern, he needed to install a Toyota factory wiring harness. Customer declined at that time.


Customer then contacted dealer and scheduled an appointment on May, 15, 2013 for the same concern. At that time, dealer installed a Toyota factory wiring harness for $140.00 plus tax for a total of $149.80. List price is $329.00 plus tax. Dealership offered a discounted price due to the wires not being soldered as previously stated. Repairs were done to the wiring during the first visit, obviously there is more of an issue to address. The dealership offered to schedule another appointment for repair at no cost to the customer. The dealership even offered to provide transportation if needed.The customer declined and wanted a complete refund. Dealership offered the customer a refund of $149.80. The customer request of $384.34 was denied.

In response to ****'s statement

The original installation of the ****** wiring harness was installed by a journeyman electrician,

who was quiet skeptical of the issue with Massie when I told him his connections failed. I don't

recall being offered transportation after the their second failed attempt of repair. The electrical

short had nothing to do with the harness ?
