Additional Complaint Information

These scams target individuals who are having trouble obtaining cash or credit. Customers are lured by advertisements promising "guaranteed" loans - regardless of credit history - for advance fees running between $50 and several hundred dollars. However, you must pay an advance fee before obtaining the "loan".

These so-called loan brokers don't lend money directly; they may claim to act as money finders and ask for an advance fee in order to prepare a loan application and present it to prospective lenders. But these firms cannot guarantee loans, despite their promises of unlimited funding sources. In many cases, brokers fraudulently pocket advance fees, make no effort to find the funds promised, and the customer loses money.

We suggest that if you have a problem, please file a complaint online at www.bbb.org and www.ic3.gov .

Additional Notes

Complaint: Received a "loan approval" from Dowell and was emailed legal documents outlining the requirements, ie. payments, amounts, rate, etc.., stating that the bank required a $180 transfer fee to obtain the loan transfer. I even directly inquired what other payments would be due prior to the transfer and was clearly told that once the transfer fee was paid, the loan would reflect in my account within 3 hours. Once I paid the transfer fee, Dowell, represented by ****** **** then contacted me stating they needed another $780 for an insurance premium before it can be completed. At NO time was there any discussions about an insurance premium! When I contacted them regarding this, ******** rely was "I didn't know about it". I refused payment, and told them they could take the insurance payment out of the capital loan amount (like all other reputable companies), and they said they could not/would not. I then requested a refund of my original payment as I believe they are in breach of contract of the signed document. They have refused. Also they are advertising they are BBB accredited, in which reality Dowell Financial is NOT, but their parent company supposedly is in Cyprus..I believe they are false advertising that fact on their web page.

Desired Settlement: I would either like the original signed document honored or my payment returned.I would also like the BBB logo removed from their web page as I believe this is false advertising.
