Imagine a class where students learn skills to be smart shoppers in today’s marketplace. For eight weeks, Better Business Bureau (BBB) Foundation teaches a Savvy Shopper workshop for the I.C.A.R.E. program at Imagine Camelback Middle, Inc. that explores marketing and advertising issues in the marketplace. To support programs like this, BBB Foundation is hosting its 23rd annual Integrity Golf Classic on Thursday, October 24, 2013, at the ASU Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, sponsored by Swiss America Trading Corporation.
The Integrity Golf Classic raises funds to benefit BBB Foundation’s Savvy Consumer Programs, which provide marketplace education and resources for thousands of Arizona consumers. For example, BBB’s Savvy Shopper class teaches youth about scams, privacy, Internet safety, competition and pricing through interactive games. Students also complete a budgeting activity and develop an understanding of how careers and education can influence their income and spending abilities.

“It is exciting to see students engaged as they learn about making savvy shopping decisions,” said Erin Harshfield, BBB Foundation Director. “Students are interested because we talk about shopping and things they like to buy, all while covering essential topics that prepare them to be conscious consumers in the marketplace.”
BBB Foundation is offering Early Bird Pricing for the Golf Classic until September 20. Business and community leaders are invited to participate in BBB Foundation’s Integrity Golf Classic by becoming a sponsor, golfing, donating raffle prizes, or making a monetary contribution. Following the tournament, a BBQ luncheon, awards ceremony and raffle will take place on the scenic patio of the Trophy Room, and tickets for the luncheon are also available.
