Local BBB Ethics Awards Winner Receives National Marketplace Excellence Award

October 30, 2012

Local 2011 BBB Business Ethics Awards winner Fairytale Brownies received the 2012 BBB International Torch Award for Marketplace Excellence this month in Washington, D.C., presented by the Council of Better Business Bureaus (CBBB).

“It is very exciting and inspiring to see a local company be nationally recognized for doing the right thing,” said Matthew Fehling, BBB President/CEO. “In a time where news stories often showcase questionable corporate ethics, it is great to see strong role models show the public that success can be attained through ethical and honest practices.”

While known for their chocolate treats, Fairytale Brownies is also a local business that fosters BBB’s mission of advancing marketplace trust through their business practices and activities. For this reason, Fairytale Brownies was also awarded the local BBB Business Ethics Award last year, serving as a stepping-stone for this year’s recognition by the CBBB. The Marketplace Excellence Award is presented to businesses that demonstrate superior commitment to exceptional standards that benefit its customers, employees, suppliers, shareholders and surrounding communities.

"Marketplace excellence is a part of Fairytale Brownies' core values, so this award recognizes our efforts and confirms that we are giving our employees and customers the Fairytale experience and trust they desire and expect, time after time," said Eileen Spitalny, Co-Founder of Fairytale Brownies.

Continuing with the spirit of honoring ethical companies, Better Business Bureau Foundation (BBB Foundation) is looking for the public’s help in nominating companies to honor at its 12th Annual Business Ethics Awards. Nominations will be accepted through Thursday, November 1, 2012.

BBB Accredited and non-Accredited Businesses displaying consistent ethical business practices can be nominated, and those meeting minimum entry criteria will be invited to complete a formal application. Selected by an independent panel of judges, winners will be announced at the awards ceremony to be held in the spring of 2013. Winners of the 2013 BBB Business Ethics Awards will be submitted for consideration to the 2013 International Torch Awards.

Over the years, the Business Ethics Awards have honored more than 100 local businesses that consistently uphold BBB’s vision of building a marketplace where buyers and sellers can trust each other.

“As we come to the end of our 100 year celebration, we reflect on the many contributions ethical businesses have made to our marketplace,” said Erin Harshfield, BBB Foundation Director. “We also look forward to showcasing the many more exemplary businesses that will follow.”
