Complaint: So in the beginning of July I called to reserve a room for the night of Aug. 1, 2014. On July 31 I recieved a call at 9:14 from the business which I miissed. At 9:42 I returned the call to cancel my reservation at which time the lady said she had already cancelled my reservation and charged me for one night. I was furious because I was cancelling in advance but she proceeded to tell me that I had reserved the room for 83 nights and therefore she had the right to make money and did not care that the reason I was cancelling in the first place was because I did not have the money to go. I went to the bank this morning and they said that the business charged my card at 9:16 before I had even talked to her.
Desired Settlement: At this time I have opened a new account because I fear this lady will charge my acct without authorization as she has already done sone. My bank is disputing the chargeand I would like her to change her policy so that when people make reservations she tells them that there is a cancellation fee. Had I known this I would not have reserved a room with her.
Business Response: Initial Business Response /* (1000, 6, 2014/08/11) */ The customer called over two weeks prior to the reserved dates. She reserved three nights in a suite during one of the busiest weekends of the year. The price and tax was quoted along with the 24-hour advance cancellation policy. She agreed to everything and gave us a contact phone as well as a credit card to guarantee the reservation. When she had not checked in on the first night of the scheduled stay, at 9:15 pm, we called the phone number to determine whether she was still going to arrive. We received no response -- the call was not answered. Since the one night charge was due at that time whether or not she arrived to complete the stay, we charged the card for the amount of one night, and cancelled the remainder of the reservation. The customer returned our call at 9:40 pm and cancelled the reservation. We explained our actions to her and she was very agitated. We tried to explain the reason for the cancellation policy, but she was not satisfied. She seemed to expect us to reserve a room for her whether or not she ever showed up. No amount of explanation would satisfy her and the phone call ended unresolved. We have no intention of charging the customer further since we have already charged the one night late cancellation charge as per our policies.
