Complaint: We were traveling through Portland on July 16, 2016. The only hotel room available was at the Golden Knight Hotel. The pictures on booking.com showed a dated but clean hotel. The room was the exact opposite. We booked a non-smoking room, but received the last room, a heavily smoked in room. The bedding was dirty, the bathroom disgusting, and there was exposed wiring in the room. The closet door had holes in it patched with duct tape. The bathroom door did not close. The hotel basically said take it or leave it, which would have meant sleeping in our car that night, seeing as how it was late at night. We received different sheets and towels that were less dirty, but left much to be desired. We have photos of the sheets and room. The room was missing a smoke detector. When we got up in the morning there was a car in the parking lot with towels and blankets covering the windows. They had slept in the parking lot all night. This hotel is a transient hotel that never should have been advertised on booking.com

Desired Settlement: The room was not worth the outrageous amount we were charged. It was worth maybe $60, not the $140 we were charged.

Business Response:

***** ***** reserved the room at the last minute on booking.com and that was the last room available. When she checked in very late night, she saw the room and she complained. I offered her a full refund immediately but she wanted to think about ten minutes and then she decided to stay. The rates depend on occupancy and the rate was $119 (excluding tax) for two beds at that time because it was the last room available. We, as the motel, didn't force her to stay.
