Re: Billing or Collection Issue Complaint ID#*******To Whom It May Concern:
I received the letter of complaint today from your office. I do wish to dispute the complaint. I have recently taken over the practice and sent letters out to all existing patients to let them know of this change and have also made my patients aware of all new changes made to the practice. It is true that I have, and am still making upgrades to the practice as it was outdated. Upgrades such as electronic health records are an essential part of the evolving health care guidelines. Digital radiographs are an important aspect of patient care because they can lower the radiation dose by 30-50% compared to conventional film radiography. I believe that these upgtades are an essential part in providing patients with the best dental care possible. I feel that it is unfair for the patient to make such an accusation that my office is over charging my patients to recoup expenses for this.
We do have an annual fee increase, as my father and uncle did when they had the practice; however, our increase is within the usual and customary fees for our region. We file several different insurances and they have all accepted our fee increase as usual and customary fees. The patient has been seen in my office on two other occasions since I have taken the practice over and was billed for the difference after insurance payment. The patient did not have a problem paying the difference at that time. It was only after we did some upgrades that the patient decided to dispute the charge. As per our office policy that the patient signed the patient is responsible for payment of any balances regardless of the insurance company’s arbitrary determination of usual and customary rates. Attached is a copy of our standard office policy just as the one the patient signed. We do file insurance as a courtesy to our patients but it is the patients responsibility to know What their insurance benefits are. I am not contracted with******* (patient’s insurance company) so therefore I am not obligated to accept what they determine is their usual and customary fees. I feel that an insurance company should not dictate treatment, but rather a licensed dentist, which is Why I am not contracted with ******** My patients value my professional opinion and that I will provide the best dental treatment at an affordable cost for each individual patient Without interference from an insurance company.
If you have any further questions please call our office during business hours.
Sincerely, .
