Some tips for consumers to follow to help ensure they are receiving appropriate termite treatments under provisions of the Structural Pest Control Law from the Fl Dept. of Agriculture: 1. Make sure the pest control company has a license issued by the FL Dept of Agriculture & Consumer Services. 2. Request a written contract for termite control services. Under state law, the pest control company must provide the contract in writing. 3. Make sure employees actually applying the pesticide have the required photo-identification card. 4. Be aware that the terms "limited" guarantee or warranty mean only that the pest control company promises to provide additional treatment if termite infestation occurs during a specified period after treatment. Effective, October 1, 2003 any contract for treatment of wood-destroying organisms must specify on the first page in bold print that it is offered for repair and re-treatment or for re-treatment only or that no warranty or guarantee is offered. 5. Note that contracts for treatment of wood-destroying organisms must specify on the first page in bold print whether there are any disclaimers, limitations, conditions, or exclusions on the licensee's obligation to repair or re-treat the property. Contract sections describing disclaimers, limitations, conditions, or exclusions applicable to the licensee's obligation to repair or re-treat the property must contain headings in bold print. If a contract for treatment of wood-destroying organisms contains a disclaimer, limitation, condition, or exclusion applicable to the licensee's obligation to repair or retreat the property, the term "full" or "unlimited" may not be used together with the term "guarantee" or "warranty."
