Year in and year out the BBB gets a volume of complaints from business firms and homeowners reporting an unsatisfactory experience with some individual or individuals posing as asphalt paving contractors. Experiences include allegations of poor workmanship, failure to complete the job, and gross overcharging. Rarely are these complaints ever resolved satisfactorily. Some contractors involved are transient; others maintain local addresses. Those who are considering a new asphalt driveway can, with a little checking, be assured of a driveway which will be satisfying in appearance and useful for a long period of time with only limited maintenance required at intervals of five to ten years. Remember that a price quotation means nothing unless you know exactly what is being provided for that price in terms of adequate base, drainage and other specifications. Insist of a written contract with thickness, quantities and areas spelled out in detail. Don't expect "bargains." The lowest bid may not necessarily be the best bid. After you have decided that your contractor is a reliable person, listen to his advice. Don't make him cut corners on quality by asking him to cut his price. You are likely to get just what you paid for. Investigate before you invest.
