Business Response: Initial Business Response /* (1000, 6, 2014/01/21) */ ****** brought his car in for an intermittent stalling problem he was having on 11-12-13. Because it was an intermittent problem, it was a difficult problem to trace down. After spending over 8 hours of diagnostic time and road testing, the car stalling problem was was repaired by replacing an electrical cam position sensor and tightening and cleaning of electrical harness connectors. car was then road tested an additional 2 days to make sure engine stalling was repaired, ****** was charged a total of $845.59 for the repair for which he received a discount of $500.00 for a bill that was originally over $1350.00. The car was towed in on 01-09-14. The car was checked out and diagnosed. The mechanical engine cam timing belt had broken which is unrelated to the electrical repairs done previously. The car has over 200,000 miles on it and many mechanical and electrical systems that are worn out and/or are wearing out. Total including tax to repair the timing belt and valves will cost $3,285.00, that being said Larry's Volvo is willing to give a substantial discount towards the repair of ******'s car, 20% off the total for labor and parts costs in the name of customer goodwill. Final Consumer Response /* (3000, 8, 2014/01/22) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) I tried to get the shop to address the belt previously and the response was "you still have 30,000 still left on the timing belt. This was approx. one (1) year ago. The shop did not say anything about the cam or belt when I picked up the car. Car also was running rough and making clicking sound in the 21 days after receiving from shop. Car did not make sound or run rough when I brought car in. Car was actually running very smooth except for the intermittent stalling witch was why I took car to shop in first place. In the past 26 month the car had been to the shop approx. four (4) times....twice for intermittent stall, once for time belt change/check-up and currently the car resides at the shop pending results of investigation. Since owning the car,(approx. 7 yrs.) the shop has been the only shop the car has repaired at. No other shop has worked on the car. Final Business Response /* (4000, 19, 2014/02/13) */ *** ********'s car was brought to Larry's Volvo on 11/12/13 to repair a very intermittent stalling problem with the engine. After spending over 8 hours of checking and road testing the car, the problem was diagnosed and repaired by replacing the cam position sensor and repairing the engine wiring harness and connections. The car was then road tested over the next 2 days and over 100 miles to make sure the engine was no longer stalling out and was deemed ready for delivering back to *** ********, at that time he was given a $500.00 discount for the repairs for our time invested in finding the intermittent stalling problem. We offer a 100 percent warranty on all of our work for one year and unlimited miles. The problem *** ******** brought the car in for on 1/09/14 was not related to the work done on 11/12/13. The cam timing belt had broken and the engine has been damaged. While we can understand *** ********'s frustration at having to spend more money on his car in less than two months of driving, we will not be held liable for a problem not related to the stalling problem for which he had originally brought the car in for. We have offered a substantial discount on the repairs for *** ******** to help him out but not able to repair his car for free on something that is not related to previous repairs. *** ********'s car has more than 205,000 miles and is over 20 years old so many things on his car will be needing repairs. We will not be held responsible things that may break or wear out in the future.
