Metal roof not installed as guaranteed. Multiple issues with staff and contractor *** ******. Have been told numerous falsehoods.
Problem Date is August 10th 2015, metal roof installed. Paid 10, 400 for metal roof. Sales representative, contractor *** ******. Ordered metal roof for my residence with a shingle tear off, repair of decking found to be defective, ice and water shield applied, metal roof install with flashing, vent pipes, etc. installed. Metal roof leaked at chimney entrance and on shower fan vent after roof installed on first rain. Upon inspection under roof found that shower vent fan was not vented properly, was venting in to attic. Found that leak was coming from the outer rim of the chimney. Also found wood with white mold around chimney pipe not replaced as agreed upon. Foreman ****** said that the roofers must not have found this, the decking was replaced, however, the leak remained after the rain. Shower fan gooseneck vent was spray gap foamed to try to stop the airflow in the attic around the gooseneck vent which was penetrated by screws used to hold in flashing (and not replaced as I had suggested). Both were still leaking after initial "repairs". Later, I found that the chimney connector was not connected properly. Chimney connector installed properly by myself and chimney metal seal still not caulked properly with heat resistant caulk. The rain comes and the chimney and bathroom fan vent still leaks. Called *** and he sent *** over for shower fan check. *** tells me it is normal for it to leak air in to the attic. I asked him if it is okay for it to blow humid air in my attic and he says that it isn't that bad. I ask him is it ok for my chimney to put smoke in my attic or is it ok for my shower fan to vent in my attic (as proving a point as to it is not) and he cannot answer my question. I take him to the chimney which I discover on the last repair made duct seal tape was placed where chimney meets metal piece designed to stop fire in event of chimney fire. Area on outer lift of fire stop piece slightly damp from rain. So it appears that they tried to tape that and let water drip on the first roof of the house (the old roof on the house and hopefully that would fix the leak as I would not know about it). I also discover that they left the plywood on top of first roof that was covered in white mold in the attic space to my obvious displeasure. Today, August 20th, 2015, *** comes over to talk to me about the issues. I show him the shower fan issue and the chimney issue. I tell him the chimney hasn't leaked yet (since no rain) but the shower fan still leaks around vent. *** tells me he and his men can't fix it. I ask him why didn't they tell me that in the first place and lie to me about it, telling me that it was ok for it to leak. *** has no answer for this. He tells me I could hire someone or find someone and then he could pay for it if it wasn't too expensive. I told him HE could call Peaden and get them to come over. Asked him why his men have been trying to jerryrig my roof, etc. Still no answers, not holding himself or men liable. Does this guy know what is going on? He tells me he can't find a gooseneck vent that is one piece, which won't leak. We eventually agree to have Peaden AC come and try to fix the shower fan issue. They cannot, the flange has been penetrated by screws which I told *** was the problem to begin with. The Peaden guys leave and I call up ***** ********* roofing and he tells me there is a shower fan vent that is one piece and he special orders it from Gulf Eagle. I ask him about another problem with the boots on the vent pipes. The men have put them on and they have installed them where they are folded and collect standing water. ***** ****** Roofing says they aren't to be installed this way. I don't want standing water on my roof vent boots, sounds like a bad idea, not to mention it will collect water, dirt, and fungus, etc and I'm sure they are meant to shed water.. *** ****** tells me that it is OK according to Coastal Metal Roofing. ABSOLUTELY unacceptable.
I would like shower vent fixed properly. I want the chimney pipe caulked and sealed properly. I want ALL boots installed to be installed properly where they will not shed water. I DO NOT want the repair work to be done by Coastal Metal Roofing if possible. They can hire another roofing company to come finish the job. I don't trust their men or their business at my residence anymore. I have been lied to and put through the ringer. It is seriously stressing me to have to be dealing with all this. I paid these guys almost 11K and they have proved to not be honest businessmen. God help those people they do this to who have no clue about how things are meant to work or are too old, not fit enough, etc. to actually go up and check these guys work. It is seriously the most pathetic business dealing I have ever had. This roof is supposed to give one peace of mind, however, it makes me stressed even thinking about what else could go wrong if this is how they conduct their business. *** should be ashamed of how this roof went down and if this is their standard practice the men working for him should be ashamed as well. I work just as hard as they do at my job and I have a wife who works hard and we raise four children. This just confirms that if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself. If I were ***, I would not be able to sleep at night conducting business in this way. I mean, I'm the one left figuring out how to make this thing work right? Like I said again, God help all these people getting a roof done by this company that have no idea of the way things are supposed to work.
A local roofing supplier has suggested a gooseneck vent that may be a suitable replacement for the vent to be replaced.
We have on order a replacement gooseneck vent that has been designed for use with our screw down metal roof.
Our plan upon receipt of the replacement vent is to contact the homeowner and schedule a convenient time with him and our crew to schedule a convenient time to install the new vent.
This is an issue that we have never encountered in any of our roofing installations, but we are determined to work with the customer to the best of our abilities to resolve it.
