Programs

New Horizons Youth Ministries (NHYM) was founded in 1971 in response to the sudden, rapid deterioration in the lifestyles of our nations' youth.

NHYM concentrates its efforts on serving bright, intelligent teenagers who are either not reaching full potential in school or are disrupting their family with their behavioral problems. Since its beginning, NHYM has grown to four main facilities: New Horizons Academy (NHA) in Marion, Indiana, which provides a boarding school in a country setting on over 100 acres of woods and farmland; the Caribe Vista School (CVS) in the Dominican Republic, which provides a dramatic backdrop for educational and therapeutic work with North American teens in a non-familiar culture; Missanabie Woods Academy (MWA) in Ontario, Canada, which provides a relatively short-term but very intensive program that often catalyzes rapid change in the young person through wilderness training and activities away from negative cultural influences; and Mountain Vista Academy (MVA), established in the summer of 2004, which affords students a summer of work-service projects in the Dominican countryside.

NHYM owes its success to the fact that its programs are based on Biblical principles. Total acceptance of the individual within a structured environment gives students an atmosphere where they can take responsibility for their actions. NHYM does not allow students to blame their past, peers, or parents for any personal shortcomings. Instead, they are taught to properly express themselves and to forgive others.
