Programs

Junior Achievement provides young people with practical economic education programs and experiences in the competitive private enterprise system, and to classrooms, Junior Achievement helps today's students learn through individuals who can relate economic theory to their lives, who care enough to listen to them, and who can provide real-life examples of how obstacles can be overcome and success achieved. This learning experience establishes the foundation from which today's students can acquire the skills dispositions necessary to continue learning in a fast-changing world.

Two programs that Junior Achievement of Northern Indiana provide are:
JA BizTown, 5th and 6th grade students experience how a community and its economy operates. As they run the town businesses, they learn about business responsibilities and money management. They also gain work readiness skills that will prepare them for success in the world of work.
JA Finance Park is an interactive program for 8th grade students that facilitates personal financial responsibility. This experience acquaints students with basic financial planning concepts and gives them an opportunity to apply their understanding in a simulated "life scenario". To prepare for this learning lab, students begin with six to eight weeks of classroom study followed by a visit to JA Finance Park.

During the recently completed 2006-07 academic year, more than 88,700 students in 25 counties experienced Junior Achievement programs. Today, Junior Achievement of Northern Indiana has one of the nation's highest student market penetrations: 40 percent.
Junior Achievement is helping develop:
-Economic knowledge and understanding through experiential, hands-on learning
-Positive students attitude toward work and their contributions to a diverse society
-Students' desires to stay in school and develop their abilities and skills
-Mentor relationships with caring adults from across the community
-Business and education partnerships that create a bridge between the classroom and the workplace
-Awareness of local businesses, industries and career opportunities
