Programs

Each year Community Action of Northeast Indiana, (CANI, serves over 11,000 different families and 25,000 different individuals who cannot meet all of their basic needs in northeast Indiana. CANI provides an array of direct services to families, including utility assistance, rent assistance, child care assistance, Head Start (preschool for disadvantaged children ages 3-5), case management through Healthy Families (with a goal of preventing child abuse and neglect) and Family Development (with a goal of helping families become economically self-sufficient), and housing related programs like home weatherization and home repair. Besides these and other direct services, CANI is actively involved in community development and advocacy activities directed to eliminating poverty in northeast Indiana.
