The American Red Cross of Northwest Indiana is a volunteer led humanitarian organization dedicating to relieving human suffering resulting from disasters, health emergencies, and armed conflicts. Professional staff and community volunteers provide: comprehensive immediate relief to victims of local emergencies and disasters; preparedness training of volunteer citizens; partnering for response with civic/social organizations and faith-based communities, local businesses and corporations, and the public-at-large; preventing, preparing for, and responding to large scale disasters, local emergencies, and helping local military families in crisis.

The American Red Cross of Northwest Indiana is the premier provider of local emergency services, disaster prevention, preparedness education, disaster response, and community volunteer programs and services to meet the needs of individuals, families, local businesses, and communities throughout Northwest Indiana. Each year they help thousands of people to recover from the effects of local emergencies and disasters with immediate short-term assistance with temporary shelter, food, clothing, health and mental health services, information and referrals to local agencies, which lead to reestablishing independent households and helping families to stay in their local communities and schools. Red Cross Services to Armed Forces programs help meet the increasing needs of local military members and their families, providing emergency communications, financial assistance, health and mental health, information and referral and community support services. Over 21,000 people a year complete Red Cross scientifically-based employment, meet their professional certification requirements, and earn good incomes to sustain their households and families. Red Cross International services reconnect loved ones separated by disasters or armed conflicts overseas. Red Cross volunteer programs support , strengthen and build healthier, safer, and stronger communities through the prevention of disaster-related homelessness, and providing health education and marketable skills that increase employability.
