Stated Purpose

The mission of AIDS Task Force is to help improve the quality of life of men, women and children living with HIV and AIDS, to educate the community in order to decrease the incidence of HIV and STD infections, and to increase the public's understanding and compassionate response to HIV and AIDS.

Programs

AIDS Task Force has several programs under the Outreach Services Department that provide HIV prevention education and HIV testing and counseling to targeted at-risk populations in Allen County as well as ten additional counties surrounding Allen.
The Youth Empowerment program works with youth between the ages of 13 and 19 on issues surrounding HIV and STDs. The program is designed to empower youth by providing them with accurate information about HIV and STDs and supporting them in an effort to reduce their risk of HIV and STD infection.
The Rural Outreach program works with persons most at-risk in ten rural counties in northeast Indiana. The rural program provides HIV prevention education, HIV testing and HIV prevention counseling in communities where many people have limited access, at best, to accurate information about HIV transmission and prevention and virtually no access to HIV testing
The Women At-Risk program works all women but primarily African American women between the ages of 20 and 29 who are living in Allen County. This multi-session program provides women with the facts surrounding HIV, provides conscious recognition of their own behaviors, familiarizes them with condoms and condom usage, and provides women with the skills to negotiate safer sex practices with their partners.
The Allen County Outreach program is similar to the Rural Outreach program and works with persons who are most at-risk for HIV infection. The Allen County Outreach program provides HIV prevention education, HIV testing and HIV prevention counseling to agencies/organizations serving persons at a higher risk for HIV such as drug and alcohol treatment centers, homeless shelters, schools, and alternative learning centers.
HIV Care Coordination at the AIDS Task Force is a program of the Indiana State Department of Health.
