Consejos Sobre la Industria

In an effort to assist you in making a responsible decision, the BBB suggests you follow these guidelines:

1. Use your head as well as your heart. Beware of telephone solicitations. The ultimate telephone solicitation scam can result when callers secure your pledge for a donation to a non-existent charity.

2. If you are tempted to respond to a telephone appeal, request that literature be sent to you along with the organizations latest financial statement BEFORE you make a contribution. This information will allow you to determine how much of your donation actually goes to the cause, how much to fund raising and administrative costs.

3. Beware of "runners" who will be right over to pick up your check.

4. Never make cash donations, always pay by check with the endorsement made out to the charity, not the person collecting.

Bona fide solicitors will welcome the requests, and gladly furnish the information, bogus solicitors will not be able to provide this information or will attempt to talk themselves out of an uncomfortable situation and go on to a less "educated giver".

Child care centers in the state of Alabama are licensed by the Department of Human Resources, Office of Day Care and Child Development, Montgomery, Alabama. To verify a child care center's license, and to obtain a list of licensing requirements you should contact the state DHR office at (334) 242-1425.

While state licensing is a requirement, and means a child care facility has met certain standards set by the state, licensed does not necessarily mean that a facility is the most suitable for your child.

When seeking child care services, consumers should make appointments to visit various facilities and learn about staff selection and credentials, you should also ask about child to adult supervisor ratios, the physical capabilities of the facility such as adequate space indoors and out, safety equipment and safety procedures and costs for the child care services and what is and is not included in the fees.

After selecting a child care facility, you may want to arrange for your child to visit the facility for a couple of hours before spending an entire day there, you should ask if there is an orientation session.

Most importantly, you should get to know the staff, and develop a good working relationship. Take an active interest and visit whenever possible to continue your observations and evaluations of the child care center.
