REFUNDS AND EXCHANGES
Every time a sale is made there is an agreement between the buyer and a seller. Generally you, the buyer, agree to pay for the item. Stores are not obligated to accept items for a refund, exchange or a credit. Some stores have "no return" or "final sale" policies, and in the state of Alabama stores are not required to post these policies or make the buyer aware of their policy.
Many stores have voluntarily set up policies to let you return articles that you purchased at their stores. Exchanges, returns for credit, and refunds are services which some stores provide to encourage you to shop there. Return privileges vary from store to store so you should be sure to ask about a store's return policy before you make a purchase.
These policies usually require that the goods be returned within a specified time period and be in new condition. In most cases, a store will require a sales slip or some other evidence that the article was actually bought there and not at some other store. Some stores may charge a restocking fee for returned items.
For some items or even for all items in some stores, the policy may be "all sales final". A store has every right to do this and will often have such a policy for goods which are on sale, sold at the end of a season, used as floor models, or of an intimate nature (undergarments, bathing suits, etc.)
In this effort to provide its customers with better service, the store has made it possible for some people to abuse the privilege extended to all. When such people return items without good reason they increase the cost of all items in the store to all customers and cause some stores to adopt less generous policies than they might otherwise.
