Complaint: ****** ****** installed my roof 2 years ago. I was unhappy with the way he conducted himself 2 days into the job. His employees spent more time goofing off and smoking on my roof than they did repairing the dry rot that I was being charged $79.75 per hour to repair. When they claimed to be finished replacing the rotted boards of my patio cover I pointed out some obvious boards that they missed. They told me that they were fine. It wasn't until a male friend of mine came over and argued with them about it that they reluctantly replaced them. They lied to me about several things and when I approached ****** ****** about it he dismissed my concerns. I was told the work would be done in 5 days, however, it took them over 2 weeks to complete. The boards on the patio are not all nailed down, broken and the existing boards are also broken in places. They laid the roof over these problems and now I cannot fix it without taking off the new roof. A few months ago I noticed a raised line in the roof. The line is in the middle of the roof when looking at the front of the house. I climbed onto the roof and realized that the entire section is not sealed. I can place my entire hand under the composition. We contacted ****** ****** on January 17th. He asked that someone climb in the attic and take pictures for him. I had a friend do so and send pictures to him on January 21st. I received no response. We contacted him again on January 24th. He completely blew us off telling us that his guys were waiting for better weather to come out and look at it. The sun was out all week and on that day it was 65 degrees. These are just the major issues I have with this company. They reluctantly replaced fascia board in the front that was rotting, and the new boards do not match up. I asked them to redo agreed upon work 3 times. The end result is still extremely poor quality. I was told by ****** ******, "that kind of work is not their specialty". He did not seem to care that I was unhappy with the work of his company. He still doesn't. Product_Or_Service: Roof Account_Number: Invoice # XXXXX

Contact Name and Title: ****** ****** Contact Phone: XXX-XXX-XXXX Contact Email: *****@tomyancey.com I inspected the roof Friday, February 01, 2013 after hearing of ******'s complaint. The repairs were successfully completed Monday, February 04, 2013. Our crews removed a 40-foot row of shingles, which had not properly seated and sealed. Apparently a small strip of base felt had compromised the seal tab on this one shingle row. This condition was not noticeable until the recent January freezing temperatures. The correction required replacing the row of shingles with a new row supplied by Owens Corning the product manufacturer. The repairs were completed at no charge under our guarantee. ******'s Warranty and Guarantee are still in full affect. Before and after pictures are available for further review. We are happy to be of service...We certainly appreciate ******'s business.

Consumer's Final Response
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) ****** did attempt to fix the problem on February 4th, however, did not install the new row of shingles properly. I was at work this day and when I got home I was concerned when the line was still visible. I called ****** and he advised me that when the shingles seal the line will disappear. I had reservations. ****** and his crew have not been honest with me a few times since the project began. I had a professional roofer come over to give me an estimate for repair to fix the issue in a correct manner and was told that the repair was not done correctly. I was also advised that even when the shingles seal the line will still be visible. The correct repairs are estimated at $1,870. I am again disappointed with ****** ******. I do not understand why he insists on cutting corners at my expense and refuses to fix the problem the correct way.

Business' Final Response
This will confirm my re-inspection of the repairs today. Such inspection was only made from street level, as I was not permitted to go upon the roof for a closer look at the job by the resident. I did leave a green customer service door hanger card. ****** has a good point there is a noticeable difference between old and new shingles. Now instead of seeing the unsightly raised shingle you see the replacement shingle. It is a noticeable cosmetic condition when viewed from the street level. I agree it is somewhat noticeable. Today I rechecked our records to confirm we used the exact same color, type and model shingles for the repair. I spoke with our installer **** ********* an 18-year veteran mechanic of ****** ****** Company. In his opinion the "mechanical" aspect of the repair is correct. I feel ******'s complaint now is of a "cosmetic" nature and not of the original "material, mechanical, waterproofing" nature. We also feel it is a temporary matter which may disappear with the first rain but most likely after a few months. We understand however cosmetic issues are important too. Here are a few solutions: #1 The customer may want to contact the roofing manufacturer for an independent opinion #2 We would be happy to give the customer a Cosmetic Guarantee that if the matter is still noticeable in 6 months we will replace approximately 600 SF of roofing in its entirety from ridge to eave and gable to valley. #3 We will offer an extended 10-Year ****** ****** Guarantee on this entire area addressed above. If none of these resolutions are acceptable please provide us with the Name, Contractors License Number and Phone Number of your professional roofer and we will make any reasonable repairs at his or her direction.
