Complaint: False Diganostic by Company Technician ***** My Air-Conditioner Stopped working on 9-08-13. After examining several business's on-line, DeHart was at the top of list. I called DeHart, the technician on call said, that the repair would be Double the normal rate because it's Sunday. On Monday 9-09-13, I called DeHart at 8am. The Technician (*****) arrived at 1pm. ***** inspected my unit and said the following: Ihe IBM (Motor) has burnt out causing the Control Board to Fail. ***** said that he did not have the parts, He would have to submit the Invoice to the office so the parts could be ordered. ***** gave me a copy of the Invoice. The Invoice stated the following: 1 Rescue IBM(Motor)-$425, 1 OEM Control Board-$404. Diag-$59. I payed the $59 fee. I immediately called another Air-Conditioning company. The technician arrived @ 5pm the same day. The technician said that I needed a Cupacitor(sp). The technician cleaned my unit replaced cupacitor for $200. The representative for Dehart called later with the $425-IBM, $404-OEM Control Board totaling $829. I asked for the Manager who's name is *****. I told him that his technician ***** over inflated my estimate and that my unit was repaired for $200. He was not Apologetic, he asked who a what was done to my unit, for which I declined to answer. I stated I wanted my $59 inspection fee returned, He said no, stating that he did not know if the diagnostic ***** gave was Incorrect.

Desired Settlement: I would like a refund of my Inspection Fee, and that this incident be investigated, posted and published, so this will not happen again to other Consumers.

Business Response: Initial Business Response
We have contacted the customer, apologized for the situation, and have issued a refund of the original diagnostic fee. We have followed up with the technician and the department manager to make sure we can prevent issues like this from happening in the future. We do appreciate that Mr. ***** has brought this issue to our attention.

Consumer Response
Thanks to the BBB, De Hart Plumbing sent my original check in the amount of $59.00 was sent back to me for the diagnostic along with an apology. However, the manager insisted that his employee would not have made a false diagnostic; and asked me if he could come to my residence to check the Air Conditioning Unit, when in my original complaint I told him it was repaired by another company. I DECLINED

BBB's Final Determination: Consumer accepted resolution offered by the business.
