Additional Notes

Complaint: Custom Arbors has failed to complete repairs on our backyard patio cover/deck. Custom Arbors was contracted in Spring, 2012 to remove our existing wooden patio cover/deck and replace with a stucco and stone patio cover and deck. Work was completed, but the integrated drain was not properly sealed, and significant water continually leaked inside the stucco and stone causing damage to the stone columns. Custom Arbors started repairs in April, 2013, and the repairs are still not complete. The cause of the water damage, the drain system, has not been touched.

Desired Settlement: Complete the repair with proper water proofing within the next 3 weeks. Otherwise I will hire a separate contractor to complete and seek compensation from Custom Arbors.

Additional Notes

Complaint: Owner delivered and set up poor quality arbor materials and refused to fix the damaged wood. The owner ****** ****** sold us a $2,500 arbor during the Home & Garden Show at Cal Expo in March and told us he used only the highest quality materials and did outstanding work. Two months after he delivered it and set it up nearly all of the pieces of wood began to crack and split. I called him to complain and he came out to look at the arbor and agreed it was very bad and was probably due to the wood being too green when they cut it. He stated he would make it right and replace all of the damaged boards. He came to our house while we were in Lake Tahoe and when we returned we discovered he had only replaced a couple of boards and attempted to hide the other damaged boards by putting stain into the cracks. When we got home I was shocked and texted him immediately and he stated he had done all he could do. He refused to replace any other boards. He said I should have "done my research" on the type of wood he used. This owner is dishonest and his business license should be revoked. I have many pictures I can provide.

Desired Settlement: I want the entire arbor replaced or I want my money refunded asap.

Business Response: Business' Initial Response
As the costumer said I was at the Cal-Expo home and garden show We had the pergola as display at the show and was for sale at a discounted price normally a pergola this size sells for $3,600 installed, He got it for $2,000 plus $500 for delivery and installation. The materials We use are #1 DF any body knows that lumber exposed to sun will crack and twist and that's normal, most people that don't like that will buy Aluminum covers, I normally give a six month warranty on my covers which covers boards that split and twist more than usual in this case I talked to***** ****** over the phone and then met him at his house, I looked at the boards and most of them were split as normal but there were 4- 4"x 4" runners and 3- 4"x 6" joists that were splitting more than usual and this was my explanation: wood covers do split and twist when exposed to sun and based on my experience this looks normal except four of the runners and three of the joists and I will replace them and I also make post skirts to cover the post bases and touch up the pergola for the inconvenience. He said I will trust you since you have more experience. A week later we replaced the boards, covered the post bases and touched up the pergola as agreed, two days after He text-ed me: ****** I though you were going to replace the three boards on top they look very bad and the others you re-stained are splitting worse. We're very disappointed.... My wife is pretty upset... You probably should have replaced everything Except maybe the 4 legs. I replied: We replaced all the splinted ones and touched up the arbor, if we replace all of the boards they will split again in a matter of months and you will call me again. If I could stop the boards from doing their nature proses I would, I'm sorry you are not happy but I've done all I can. Then he threat me with BBB, State Licensing Board, Sacramento County District Attorney's office. I asked him to do some re-surge on wood first and he would now about that DF wood splits. and here we are. ****** ******. Custom Arbors & Landscape XXX-XXX-XXXX

Consumer's Final Response
I have heard nothing from them can you tell me if he is a licensed contractor?
