Additional Notes

Complaint: Complaint for unprofessional service and excessive repair costs, rendering the customer liable to pay to avoid further charges. I took a 1987 Oldsmobile Ninety Eight to have wires soldered. I was informed of the cost for install would be $160 for which I was asked to pay up front, as a deposit. When I only had $120 at the time, that was accepted. At the time of pickup, there was an additional $30 charged for material and $95 for a diagnostic check that led to adding only a fuse for which the car was equipped with. I had no problem paying the $160.00 but feel the additional $125.00 was excessive and unwarranted.

Desired Settlement: When picking up the vehicle, I requested a reduction in the cost. When that was refused, I wanted to leave the car but was told there would be additional fees for storage if the vehicle was left. This deemed the vehicle "hostage" until the excessive amount was paid.

Business Response: Initial Business Response
The customer had brought the vehicle to the shop to instal the wiring pigtail for the ignition maduale which had been already cut. The original estimate which I gave to the customer was $160.00 wiring repair cost and material of $30.00. I also gave the estimate of additional $95.00 to do further diagnosis if the vehicle would not start; for which the customer agreed and signed on the work order. This additional estimate was added at the time when the vehicle was dropped off. (towed in). His mechanic had already had the wires wrapped and could not get the vehicle started. By seeing the type of work and talking to the customer I knew that the shop had to do additional diagnosis in order to get the vehicle started. I had noticed that the customer had also replaced the crankshaft position sensor. When I asked about it he said that HIS MECHANIC did the work. It also came with the drive belt off and for which I did not charge any labor; nor did I charge him to charge the car battery. *attached is the work order from the shop which the customer received. *NOTE the cost on the repair is below the estimated cost to the customer on the ROXXXXXX Manager ***** *******

BBB's Final Determination: Business offered a resolution. Consumer did not pursue further with BBB and the matter was assumed to be resolved
