Complaint: Paid for the top of the line paint job and paint is cracking. Also showed bad business practices.Terrible !!! On 8/4/2011 I took my 1988 monte carlo to earl scheib and spoke with the owner ****** ****** about a paint job. He took the job and quoted me $2000 plus I paid an additional $200 to have it cut and buffed. I gave $1500 upfront and he begged me to bring the last $700 before the job was finished and I did in good faith.I was supposed to have a top of the line paint job. the dioamond package with extras. The shop had my car in the shop for months. I got my car back and the issues started to arise they painted over my blinker lights , there was overspray on parts of the car that were no supposed to have paint in it. The parts to my car were not put back on my car , ie. trunk rubbers etc.I took in back in multiple time for various reasons from putting the pieces to my car back on properly which never got done fully until a few days ago. I took it in to have the rubber put on the windows and they chipped my door and the paint job on the drivers side and denied it, then tried to do a quick fix to get me to go away. Then the door rubbers that I spent $80 were improperly installed and looked terrible and my car leaked water all in it as I drove it through the car wash. Then noticed the paint was cracking on the back side panel , so took it back in and they did a spot job fix again. Now I 2 days after that I am noticing my hood cracking and how bad of a paint job they did on my car. It is under warranty for 5 years but I have took it to them on multiple occasions and the owner never wants to fix anything properly all he likes to do is collect money. I refuse to take my car to him again . This is more than a car to me my mother who has lung cancer bought it for me as a shell and I have built it up from there. I will not trust him to touch my car again I cannot risk any more damage this is my dream car and with how ****** ****** took car of this situation broke my heart . I had to work with his employees more that him he was never there. ***** his employee is great through all of this he has helped me to the best he could . All I want is my car to have the paint job I paid for but not by this shop , almost a year of hassles and the problems keep getting worse.

Desired Settlement: I want the shop to cover the cost to get my car painted properly at another shop or my money back and I will find a paint shop myself.

Business Response: Business' Initial Response My customer was informed that we were not going to do a restoration job on there car. Unfortunately the car had been worked on previously and all cracks coming through the paint is due to old bodywork that is now starting to show up. my warranty covers all paint work and not past bodywork although i was willing to cover it. As for putting the car parts on there vehicle, that was on thing they were gonna do since we did not remove them. i chose to help the customer out and do it for them so most got put back fairly well but they were missing a number of parts to complete the assemble. As for painting there lights. the reason they were painted is because those lights already were painted and i have the picture to prove that. I'd be more than happy to fix the old cracked bondo on there car, but this is a courtesy job not a warranty job. i can't help previous vehicle problems.

Consumer's Final Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) I am quiet aware he was not doing a restoration job on my car. As I remember you included body work in the quote as it is clearly stated on my receipt it says "body work and cracks" So obviously you did not do a good job with the body work and that is why cracks are coming through and ruining the paint job. As a professional painter the owner should have noticed the lights were painted previously and not allowed it to happen again, heres a scenerio : If my back brake lights were painted you would just paint over them again knowing that is not how it is supposed to be done? I took my car in August of 2011 and didnt get it back for approx. 4 months , so around december I got my car back and within 6 months I have had to go to that shop and fight for the job to get done right . I paid over $2000 for a paint job that hasnt even held up for 6 months and I have kept my car in its own carport and protected. How can there be so many flaws in the paint job in such a small amount of time when they worked on it for 4 months? Did my car sit in the corner and not get worked on until I started to wonder why it was talking so long? Was it all just a front to make it look like you were doing a top notch job on my car , when infact you could care less and did a rush job? The owner told me "what do you expect you only paid $500 for the car. " That was fate that I can across this car , ive been looking for 11 years for a monte carlo its my dream car . So who was he to try and make me feel like my car was nothing , it means the world to me .Disappointed , heartbroken and played for a fool are some of the things I feel when I look at my car . The owner of this shop took more than just my money , he took my dream and crushed it because now I have to go through all of this instead of enjoying my car and moving on to the next step in making my car complete.

BBB's Final Determination: BBB determined that while the business addressed the complaint issues, the complanant was dissatisfied and the matter was outside the BBB Rules of Arbitration.
