Additional Notes

Complaint: I purchased a whole house fan and installer from Century Homestead. The fan broke 11 months after install. Company is refusing to repair. I called Century Homestead about a Whole house fan. I was asked questions about my home (sq footage, 2 story..ect). Triangle fan was suggested and described. The approiate shutter was also described. I was given the price of the fan and install (by a professional, liscened installer) was $1,700.) I agreed to the purchase. An installer was sent by Century Homestead. He installed the fan. I paid century homestead on 6/25/2012 with my AMEX card. On 5/17/13 I called century homestead and informed them that my fan broke, I was told the contractor who installed it was gone on military duty. I told them I needed this fixed, that it is covered under warranty. They are refusing to fix it, saying that it is not their responsibliity. Century Homested took my payment... sent the installer so it is their responsibility to get my fan fixed by another contracter.

Desired Settlement: I want my fan get the needed repairs so it will work again. I have allready contacted the manufacturer who agrees Century Homestead is Responsible to fix.

Business Response: Business' Initial Response
Contact Name and Title: ***** ****** Contact Phone: XXX-XXX-XXXX Contact Email: ***** First and foremost, I want to apologize for not responding to the previous e-mails. We have received several e-mail spams representing themselves as BBB and I did not think it was valid. In June 2012 we received a telephone call from Ms. ***** interested in a wholehouse fan. She said she had contacted the manufacturer, Triangle Engineering, and they gave her our telephone number as we are the distributor for their product in Northern California. She called us and we educated her on the fan and the proper size for her home. She said she would like an estimate. We told her we do not install the product but we could provide her a referral. We furnished her the name of **** Construction and their telephone number. On June 26, 2012 **** Construction purchased a 36" Triangle Wholehouse Fan from us. On June 27, 2012 we received a call from **** Construction. He had completed the install for Ms. ***** and she needed to pay by American Express. He did not accept credit cards so we agreed to accept the sale through our merchant service (never again!!). In May 2013 we received a phone call from Ms. ***** complaining the fan was not operating property. She said she contacted **** Construction and was not able to reach him. We learned the owner of **** Construction left in April for military duty and would not be back until September. Ms. ***** felt we were obligated to take care of the repair (the fan was still performing but making a noise). Since the fan was still working we suggested she wait for his return. On May 17, 2013 we received a call from the manufacturer, Triangle Engineering stating Mr. ***** said we refused to warranty our install. Triangle Engineering knows we DO NOT install the fans - their call to us was a courtesy call letting us know about the dissatisfied customer. She contacted another contractor, *** Construction, complaining. *** Construction called us and we asked him if he could do a service call and we would pay him. On X-XX-XXXX *** did a service call for Ms. ***** (copy attached) and we paid **** We back charged **** Construction for this repair (copy attached) and will get reimbursed in September upon his return. Should you have any questions or need additional information regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me.

BBB's Final Determination: Business offered a resolution. Consumer did not pursue further with BBB and the matter was assumed to be resolved
