Complaint: Improper diagnosis and repair of unit. Was charged for its repair; only to have the A/C malfunction a day later. I have a Trane Heat Pump that was installed through the SMUD energy efficiency program. The unit never properly functioned. The company misrepresented themselves and as result Trane Corp hired Pacific Heat & Air. I have since used them every year. The unit is about 14 years old. Last year, I was told to replace it since there are better ones out there; I do not have the money to do so. The technician from this company have come out every 6 months to either fix a part or defrost it. Last Tuesday, ***, one of the owners, came out and told me that the freon was low and charged me $240 for the freon. The very next day the unit was not working. On Saturday, ****, another owner, came out and told me the freon had leak out and the oil had also leaked out. He informed me that he needed to order the part and that he would get back to me by Tuesday or Wednesday (6 or 7 August 2013). I did not receive a callback. Instead, when I called back on Thursday **** told me that I do not want to pay. This was first time I heard of this. I reminded him that NO SUCH CONVERSATION took place. He also informed me that I need to pay an additional $300 for the repair. Had they done they job in the first place, the leak and freon, plus whatever welding needs to take place would have been avoided. What I want is them to do the job correctly and repair their error.

Desired Settlement: I want Pacific Heat & Air to fix the unit as paid for. By placing the blame on its customer is irresponsible of them.

Business Response: Business' Initial Response
On 08/09/2013 Ms. ******* Contacted the office with her complaint. She spoke to both the owners and they told her we would be out on Monday the 12th of August. We dispatched two technicians to locate the leak, solderd the leak, vaccumed, and recharged the unit with r22 Freon 7lbs 6oz. Unit is working good now.

Consumer's Final Response
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) They came to my home four times to repair the unit. The Second time they wanted me to authorize $25/weekly deductions from my disability account. I refused. If I had authorized the second invoice I would have paid $240 (first time) and $350 (second time). Had they diagnose it correctly I would not have experienced 15 days of NO Central A/C. The climate was very hot. I needed to sleep with the doors open in area that is NOT safe. I am very unhappy with the work. The unit still does not operate as a Central A/C unit.

Business' Final Response
On 08/23/2013 contracted the consumer, she had no time, we made an appointment to meet on Sunday the 25th. I checked the unit to insure it was working. Found no other leak, low pressure is at 65psi, the temp. at the supply vent is 54 degrees. The system is working good. Told the consumer she did not half to pay the last bill, we would just void it. She said ok, and she would report back that everything is fine and working ok with the system.
