Complaint: I was unhappy with billing for taxes, called up, asked for a refund of $200. They said they would send out partial refund to settle, they never did. I went to JH for my 2013 taxes. At the time due to cataracts I was unable to see and could not read any of the additional statement on the charges that kept piling up. The person doing the taxes seem to be reading them to me, as if I need them. Instead of $75-$100 for taxes - I walked out of there with a bill of $279.00 and $10 fee for me to pick the refund check at their office. I called up a week later to complain, the person said a supervisor would call me in a day or two. No one did, I called again and spoke to a representative and was told - if I would settle right then, they would send out $50. I agreed. No check ever came. I called again, same thing no check has come to my house. The last representative said that JH "the check is in the mail." I don't have a check. The check has not come to my house.

Desired Settlement: I already agreed to a $50 refund - but I would like that refund to be sent to me in the mail. I have a mail box and they have my address. No more fooling around please.

Consumer's Final Response
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) You did not speak to me on the phone, you left a message informing me I could come to your office and pick up the check. That is not ok. I requested a check in the mail. What's the hang-up? Doesn't this business know how to send a check in the mail? I am blind in one eye with limited vision in the other eye. I was legally blind in both eyes when I first went to Jackson Hewitt and was taken advantage of. I still can't drive. I should hire someone to drive so I can pick up the check? Rather than walking to my mailbox and open it? What nonsense!!! Why should I work for my refund? Doesn't that lessen the amount I am getting back? They need to take care of their business - if they are sending me a check - try putting a stamp and the correct address on it. I'll bet it gets here. We can then close this situation where a $100 tax return turned into $279.00 bill. Letters from the BBB reach me just fine here at my home. Try it.
