Complaint: Forster installed defective chimney piping resulting in improper operation of an small stove used for heating. Forster has refused to return my calls. Forster installed a small propane, gas log stove in my residence in 2010 for supplemental heat. The stove was designed to use outside air supplied through a two part chimney pipe, the cool air entering the outer portion of the divided pie and the hot exhaust gas would leave through an inner pipe. During the past few winters I had noticed the outer pipe getting hot enough it could not be touched without burning your fingers. Originally I attributed this to the all-metal construction of the pipe. This Summer while performing my annual inspection and service to the stove I decided to take the suspect chimney pipes apart. What I found was a large accumulation of soot in the cold air side, further inspection revealed large gaps between the male and female connection on the inner (hot exhaust) pipes allowing hot gas to migrate into the cold air supply side causing the outer pipe to become very hot when it should have remained cold. Clearly defective pipes were used in my installation. I sent an e-mail to Forster in July requesting they replace these defective pipes and subsequently in a phone conversation with ****** the owner agreed that since he was busy he would replace the pipes at a later date toward Fall. I sent another e-mail requesting the repair and in a phone call, ****** agreed to replace these pipes the next day. I had informed him in writing and verbally that I would not be home between 12PM and 2PM that day, however his workers came at 1PM to do the repair and left a business card with the time of 1:10. Since that time I have called numerous times and left messages, and e-mailed him to fix this once and for all however he has not returned any of my calls or e-mail. It is now getting colder and I am unable to use this stove for my supplemental heat. No attempt to rectify this issue has been made by Forster. I had made mention in all my messages that Friday between 12 and 2 I would be in a weekly meeting and Friday was the only day I had available but that has fallen on deaf ears. Using defective supplies and poor after the sale service is the reason for my complaint today
Desired Settlement: I want these defective pipes replaced ASAP as they never should have been installed in the first place, they present a carbon monoxide safety issue and inefficient operation of the stove causing a large consumption of propane that cost me over $800 during the past several Winter seasons. Safety of installation should be Forsters' primary focus but this clearly exceeds the boundaries of safety and fire prevention and must be corrected.
