Additional Notes

Complaint: Called at 1 pm on June 5th and said it would cost $50 to program my garage door opener Arrived at 3 pm gave them my manual to my genie garage door opener Did not read manual started hitting buttons broke the bracket of the top of the garage and burnt out the motor This is less than a year old He refused to take responsibility for his damage took off and drove away doing nothing about what he did he did not even ask to be paid He broke it!!

Desired Settlement: Repair the damage door I had a witness with me my husband *** and me **** ******

Business Response: Business' Initial Response
On June 5th 2013 my receptionist received a call at 10am from **** ****** She called to make an appoinnnent to program the remote control for the opener. Her appointment was at 3pm. As soon as I arrived I started to program the remote. ******** then gave me a manual which wasn`t necessary because it was only the remote not the whole opener that I was programming so I set it aside. When I finished Programming the remote I was testing it. That's when I noticed that the door was off adjustments. When the door went up it went passed about 3-4 inches passed the beams. So I started to fix the adjustments and then Mr. ***** had admitted that he was trying to program the remote and he couldn`t figure it out and moved the adjustments. I fixed the adjustment to go down and when I started to fix it going up the opener froze. Now his opener is a genie brand. That specific brand is not recommended by contractors because it does tend to over heat. You can not use those openers more than 5 times in one minute, and I was not aware that if was being used by Mr. ***** until after I had already started. I informed him that it was going to take about 30-45 minutes to cool down and that I was going to have to charge it as if it was a service call. He refused to Pay. His exact words were "I'm not going to pay you, you better fix it'. And I responded and said "no you were working on it". I came to program a remote not to fix the mistake he made trying to do it himself. The customer was not honest from the beginning, and I left the opener in operating conditions. I've been doing this for 10 years, and I'm a licensed contractor I know that the opener was working but it just had to cool down and that's what I explained to him. I wouldn't have charged Mr. ***** for the adjustments if the opener would have continued to work Ever though we didn't get paid he kept the remote and got the door in operating conditions. As the owner in this business my goal is to keep my customers happy I've always done above and beyond to make the service better.
