In the News: Online Condo Rental Scam
December 06, 2012
Beware online rental scams, reports Doug Magditch of CW33-TV, Dallas-Fort Worth. One scammer posed as a condo owner asking for $800 up front. Listen to your instincts when it sounds too good to be true, says Jeannette Kopko of BBB serving Dallas and Northeast Texas.

Looking online for a rental, Doug Magditch of CW33-TV, Dallas-Fort Worth, hunted down a two-bedroom condo in uptown Dallas. It was 1500 sq ft on two floors for only $800.

Turned out that a scammer was trying to get him to wire hundreds of dollars up front without seeing the condo – which was already occupied by its real owner!

“If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is,” said Jeannette Kopko of BBB serving Dallas and Northeast Texas. “That’s your instinct kicking in. You should listen to that instinct because that’s a sign that you should look into it even more closely.”
