Additional Notes

Complaint: The agency placed a hard inquiry on my credit report (lowering my credit score) and despite repeated phone and written requests refused to tell me the name of the creditor or the amount involved. Today I received a threatening letter from a lawyer that my assets will be seized--also without any reference of what the **** they are talking about!

Desired Settlement: Tell me, *** ***** ****, what are you trying to collect from me--and remove the inquiry from my credit report!

Business Response: Re:        Complaint ID No. *******
Dear ** ******:
This letter is in response to your letter dated February **, 2013 received in our office on March *, 2013.
The Accounts Retrievable System, Inc. is a collection agency located in ********, New York. The matter that is referenced by this customer complaint has to do with a Judgment entered against **** *******.  This Judgment, entered in favor of The Accounts Retrievable System, Inc., was entered against **** ***** in the ***************************************, New York on or about November **, 1998.
The Judgment was entered in the amount of $16,091.48 and currently has a balance of $36,799.23. You should also note that under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, we are allowed to obtain credit reports on a debtor, i.e. **** ********, which results in a hard inquiry on his credit report.  This is a normal procedure in the collection business and is certainly allowed by law. You should also note that in an attempt to settle this matter, ** ********* offered $5,000.00 to settle this debt totaling $36,799.23.  His offer was rejected.  It was our opinion that because this offer was rejected, ** ******* filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.
You should also note that our office is not directly making any collection efforts against ** ********.  All such efforts are being conducted by local counsel. If we could be of any further assistance to you, please feel free to contact me directly.
Very truly yours,
****** ***********
