BBB suggests that if you are considering membership in a buying club, do some research first. Be sure to compare prices for goods and services. Are they available through other retail stores? Consider the amount of merchandise you would have to buy at the club's discounted prices to make up for the cost of the membership. Understand the policies of the organization such as how you order merchandise, methods of payments, finance charges, delivery and service charges, refunds and exchanges, and warranty rights. Also consider the sales tactics of the buying club. Were you subjected to a high-pressure sales presentation? Were you told you had to make a decision and sign a contract immediately? Is the buying club open and up front about their prices as well as what goods and services are available? As with any other purchase, don't feel pressured into making a decision if your are not ready.
