BBB Imposters Canvassing Albuquerque Neighborhoods and Businesses

June 06, 2014

BBB serving New Mexico and Southwest Colorado was contacted recently by an Albuquerque resident stating that she received a door-to-door solicitation from someone posing as a BBB representative.  The resident states she was told by this imposter that she was entitled to a $300 gift card.  The imposter told the resident she was entitled to this gift card because local businesses had pooled their money together and decided to donate it to the public, rather than give it to the IRS.

On a separate occasion, a BBB employee witnessed two unknown men entering a local Albuquerque convenience store wearing white polo style shirts with the BBB logo on the front and “Better Business Bureau” on the back of the shirts. These men were not actual employees of BBB. The shirts they were wearing are not the style of shirt your BBB employees wear.

Our office has also received a report of persons claiming to represent BBB visiting Albuquerque businesses. Your BBB does not typically send representatives to area companies to promote accreditation.

BBB is alerting area residents if they are approached by someone purporting to be an employee of BBB to contact our office at (505) 346-0110 and verify their identity. As always, BBB encourages you to never give out personal information to anyone.
