The Review:BUYER BEWARE! At every turn La Puerta made errors: neglected to include our island in our initial kitchen sales agreement (9 months later they asked us for an additional $16K), built two cabinets the wrong size, refused to supply us with the center piece of our kitchenthe photo of which was attached to our sales agreement, spoken about for monthsbut they then claimed we had never paid for it (we paid immediately for it), broke promises about storing our kitchen for as long as we needed, used inferior drawer-slide hardware (that they ultimately replaced once we discovered the issue ourselves when the slides were breaking). They will tell you anything to make a sale but it will take a fight to get them to honor verbal agreements if they are not written into the contractand even then they refused to comply with the sales agreement. They have essentially robbed us of $8K worth of items we paid for upfront. Their general pattern of deception is that of making verbal promises and then later will only refer to the written contract, which is fairly vague. After making huge mistakes and telling us not to worry when we spoke with them about the problem, they then completely refused to take responsibility. Be sure to record all phone calls or any interactions with them from the very beginning. It is at anyone's peril who decides to do business with this company as they operate devoid of integrity from our experience. The owners, a husband and wife team, are like a right and left hand that have nothing to do with each other until they unite to cover each other's failures; wolves in sheep's clothing for sure.

            La Puerta Originals Response

            05/26/2023

The clients purchased a $4+ million home in ******, ** and came to ** in March 2021 for custom kitchen cabinetry. It is our policy to go over our terms and conditions and warranty procedures with each client explaining how we work, how we do our pricing and how to deal with warranty issues. These procedures were reviewed and signed by the client prior to entering into the contract. From the beginning, the clients had a very difficult time paying the required deposits. We worked with them on a payment schedule. They complained often about the price of our products and that we were over their budget. When the first contract was signed, the clients were not sure they could afford to purchase a kitchen island. We did not charge them for the island, and it was not listed on the first contract. However, many months later, they assumed they had paid for the kitchen island and accused ** of lying to them about what was included in the original contract. It was pointed out that the island had not been itemized on the contract and that they had not paid for the island. Eventually and with much resistance and complaint, they purchased the kitchen island. Our company uses antique material from around the world to incorporate into our designs. These items are finite, and we charge a premium for using them. The clients picked out several pieces of antique material, took photographs, and worked with our designer to incorporate them into the cabinet package. The original contract had several pieces of this material, and we charged them for the pieces according to our pricing structure. There were some items that were not used and others that were placed on hold. We used the material that was paid for and included in them in the construction of the kitchen cabinets and island. These were clearly outlined and identified in the contract.** 2022 when we were completing the construction of the cabinetry package, there was a world-wide pandemic and global supply shortages. We had difficulty obtaining many of our construction supplies that due to global supply chain issues. We were unable to source our standard drawer glides for many of our projects. As a result, we were forced to use substandard glides on the clients cabinetry. We have offered to reimburse the client for the glides.Although they had not begun their remodeling project for their new home in June of 2022, the clients demanded that we rush to complete their project and ship to them so they would have time to refinish the cabinets. We notified them that one of the cabinetry pieces was not made to the exact dimensions, but they chose to accept the cabinets as is and work out a solution when they began their installation. Our warranty terms require the cabinets be inspected upon receipt, and to provide in writing any damage or measurement issues. We did not hear from the clients for 7 months until they began the installation of the cabinets. At that time, they had already installed the cabinet with the wrong dimensions in an entirely different location. They were not interested in returning the piece but demanded that we make them an entirely new and additional cabinet at our expense. Since they did not follow our warranty procedures, we declined to make the cabinet at no cost.Additionally, the clients asked ** to make appliance panels for their refrigerator. Appliance panels are sold separately. We require notification and appliance specs from the client in advance so that they can be priced accordingly. When we sent them a price to make the panels, they made several angry and threatening phone calls and sent threatening emails. We declined to provide the panels at no cost to them. The clients then sent a demand letter and threatened to bring legal action unless we provided a new cabinet at our expense, an antique door that they had not paid for and to take the return of a cabinetry piece that they decided not to use. We declined their demands and have notified our attorney of possible legal action. Our position is that have been fair, professional and very patient in working with the clients for two years. We have only asked them to pay for items that had not paid for, as any company would do and in the normal course of business.
