Environmental Charge on billing
2/23/16 HVAC unit was repaired for loose blower wheel, was charged "Environmental Charge" of $10.00..asked re. this charge and was told it is for removing hazardous waste or trash which I told them nothing was removed, he only mounted back the fan to unit..they said this is on all invoices now but this is dishonest as it does not apply to my situation and they told me it is legal..that can not be true as you can not charge for something you did not do.

Thank you for contacting our company about the environmental fee. However, you should have been told at your contact time that this fee also covers the cost of our recycled paper and envelopes, as well as our waste paper recycling fee. In an effort to be "Green", our company has made changes to the way we do business. This fee has been coming for quite some time as we routinely are charged recycling fees on the equipment we purchase as well as at the time of disposal. In the past, we have incurred these costs and not charged them on to the customers, however, with the current economy, we can no longer do this. We have to pass these fees along to our customers. While we understand that some instances may not incur the equipment related environmental fees, every call incurs some of the costs associated with the office's efforts in becoming green.
In our opinion, this is not dishonest - just the opposite, actually. We believe that instead of just raising our diagnostic and service labor rates to cover the cost, it is more beneficial to charge a flat fee to each call. We could have just raised all prices across the board to accommodate the increase in cost. However, rather than doing that, we have clearly noted on every invoice what it is for. This could not be considered dishonest as it is plainly written for all to see in black and white.
How can this not apply to your situation? We have had to print your service call ticket (3 sheets of recycled paper), invoice (another 3 sheets of recycled paper) & a statement (3 more sheets of paper), plus 2 recycled envelopes just to get your billed invoice to you, so that you could pay later than the day we did your service. While we understand that this could be considered the cost of doing business, it is still a cost that we incur to be able to bill you to pay later. We do not want you to feel that you have ever been cheated by our company, so we have applied a $10 credit to the cost of a HVAC cleaning for your future use. Please call our office as soon as possible to schedule! We do appreciate your business.

I do not agree with this charge on anyone's invoices as a paper shredder is very cheap to purchase as we all have paper to deal with in our work and we just eat the expense..same was charged to my sister and she already is using another company for her service and I will be using that company also..I have two sisters, three friends and one neighbor who were using this company, we will see how that goes.
