Mission

To financially support local charitable organizations and help increase the organized capacity of people to care for themselves and one another through education.

Programs

United Way of the Greater Miss-Lou provides funding for 14 local agencies that are able to run more programs than it would if not have been possible without United Way funding.  Also, many of their partnering agencies are able to receive matching grants based on United Way allocations.  They are dedicated to community education and making sure their partnering agencies' programs are brought to the attention of our fellow citizens in the Miss-Lou area.

The United Way of the Greater Miss-Lou has been serving our area since 1954. We bring together people from all across the community - people from government, business, faith groups, nonprofits and ordinary citizens - to tackle the issues that matter most. If it requires fundraising, going to Congress, or just getting people to work together, that's what they do.

The United Way knows that people like you really want to make a difference in your community. You want to help others, and we want to be your partner. Their experience says the best way to help the most people is to focus on the root causes of the most serious problems. It takes the whole community - working together - to pull it off.

The United Way is focused on the bottom-line results: the lives we change and the communities we shape. We know that's what matters to you.

A large portion of the fundraising for the United Way is done through business drives, Mascagni said. She said she hopes to be able to breathe new life into the businesses by allowing directors from the partnering agencies supported by the United Way to speak to the individual businesses. The United Way of Greater Miss-Lou also uses direct mail appeals, special events such as the Jambalaya Cook-off, and printed advertisements to help fund the organization.
