Mission

The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for all children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics Athletes and their community.

SOMS SPORTS

Special Olympics Mississippi reaches out to citizens with intellectual disabilities to compete in twenty-four official sports and developmental and unified sports programs. The sports are Alpine Skiing, Aquatics, Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Bocce, Bowling, Canoeing, Croquet, Equestrian, Figure Skating, Floor Hockey, Golf, Gymnastics, Horseshoes, Power Lifting, Roller Skating, Nordic Skiing, Sailing, Soccer, Softball, Table Tennis, and Volleyball.

EVENTS

Southeast Region Winter Games, World & National Games, State Basketball, Law Enforcement Torch Run, Canoeing, State Summer Games, Sports Camp, S.E. Sailing Regatta, Countdown, State Bowling, Equestrian Competition, State Fall Games

PROGRAMS

Special Olympics Mississippi has started the Healthy Athlete program.  Special Olympics Healthy Athletes is a program that offers a chance for athletes to have their health checked for FREE at state competitions.  Athletes can have their eyes, ears and teeth examined and learn about nutritution and stretching.
