Mission

To enable all young people, especially those who need us the most, to realize their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.

Accomplishments

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Mississippi, Inc. provides educational, athletic, and social activities for the disadvantaged youth who live in the most undesirable areas in our communities.  Their goal is to provide a safe environment for these youth while offering programs that improve academic achievement.  We operate four clubs in Central Mississippi and a camp facility near Hazelhurst that serve over 2500 youth ages 6-18 annually.  With programs like "Goals for Graduation", 92% of the youth who regularly attend one of their clubs will graduate high school.

Programs

5 Core Areas of Youth Development:  Education & Career Development; Character & Leadership; Health & Life Skills; The Arts; and Sports, Fitness, & Recreation.

Torch Clubs are chartered small group leadership development clubs for young people ages 11 to 13.  Members elect officers, choose their own activities and plan and implement community service projects.

Power Hour:  Making Minutes Count is a comprehensive homework help and tutoring program.  POWER HOUR is designed to raise the academic proficiency of Club members ages 6 to 12.

Career Launch is a career exploration and mentoring program for teens ages 13-18.

Goals for Graduation introduces Club members ages 6 to 15 to the concept of academic goal setting.  In one-on-one sessions with Club professionals, members set achievable goals and create action plans.

WANNA PLAY? program features a variety of fun and engaging activities to help Club members ages 6-12 improve their fitness; increase awareness of good nutritiion and hydration; learn basic baseball and softball skills; and develop a lifelong appreciation of the game of baseball.

Digital Arts Festival recognize the creative and technological talents of Boys & Girls Club members participating in Digital Arts programs.

Keystone is designed to promote character and leadership among Club teens, ages 14-18 to provide impact in three foucus areas; academic success, career preparation and community service.

UPS's world class defensive driving methods have been adapted into UPS Road Code, a unique 4-week teen safe driving course.  UPS volunteers present two hours of classroom instruction to young people ages 13-18 at the Boy's and Girls Club.

Boys & Girls Club members ages 14-18 compete on the state, regional and national levels for Youth of the Year titles.  Younger members ages 6-13 compete on the local Club level for Youth of the Month awards.

Club Tech provides programming, training and resources to make Boys & Girls Club members and professionals effective users of technology.

ImageMakers National Photography program encourages members to learn and practice various photography methods.

Junior Staff: Cultivating Tomorrow's Club Professionals Today is a practical small-group program that assists Club teens in exploring a career in youth development or other human services, with a particular focus on Boys & Girls Club work.

Triple Play, a game plan for the mind body and soul, improves Club members' knowledge of healthy habits, good nutrition and physical fitness.

SMART Girls is a health, fitness, prevention/education and self-esteem enhancement program for girls ages 8-17.

SMART Moves is a nationally acclaimed prevention program designed to hone Club members' decision-making and critical-thinking skills, as well as to learn how to avoid and/or resist alcohol, tobacco, other drugs and premature sexual activity.

Family Plus provides Boys & Girls Clubs with effective strategies and best practices for reaching, supporting and empowering families to participate fully in their children's lives.

Cal Ripkin, Sr. Foundation's Badges for Baseball program serves as a multi-faceted mentoring program which uses baseball to bring youth together with caring adults, with a special emphasis on those in law enforcement.

Other programs include:  Money Matters (financial literacy), Project Learn (academic performance), Passport to Manhood (male responsibility).
