The Red Cross Disaster Services Program ensures a comprehensive system of disaster planning, preparedness, community disaster education, mitigation and response, carried out by a trained group of a base of more than 3,500 local volunteers and staff members who are part of an on-call program to provide services wherever/whenever needed. Through its Health and Safety Program, the Red Cross trains consumers, businesses, first responders and professional rescuers in the most up-to-date science available on first aid; CPR; AED; and ECC. Other classes are taught for issues in family and community safety and health care, including swimming; life guarding; babysitting; mass care; and community care - all designed to make our families and our communities safer. In addition to these programs, the American Red Cross provides emergency assistance and communication links for families with members in the aremed forces, including the National Guard, during times of emergencies. The Red Cross regularly meets with military families to inform them of the REd Cross services in the "Get To Know Us Before You Need Us" presentations, teaching them how to access theses services during times of crisis or emergencies.
