United Way of West Central Mississippi works to advance the common good by focusing on education, income, and health. The organization distributes contributions to organizations that help children and youth achieve their potential. Additionally, the organization supports community partners working to increase the number of children entering children on track with literacy, social, and emotional skills, as well as help young adults transition from school to work, college, or training. United Way also provides funding to several health and wellness programs, allowing residents access to clinics and testing services. As a part of the direct services it offers, United Way provides financial education and resume- and job-building workshops to help lower income working families achieve greater financial stability and independence. According to the organization, in 2013, over 26,000 people were served using donated United Way dollars.
