BBB Institute for Marketplace Ethics

The BBB Institute for Marketplace Ethics is the 501(c)3 charitable educational foundation of the Better Business Bureau of Minnesota and North Dakota. Our mission is to provide resources and training on ethics as well as prevent marketplace fraud targeting at-risk consumers.

We are currently recruiting for the newly created position of Development Coordinator who will lead the generation of its corporate and individual donor support of the BBB’s educational foundation and overall vision of championing an ethical marketplace where buyers and sellers trust each other.

Core duties and responsibilities will encompass the areas of Grants, Donation, and Sponsorships and include, but not limited to:

  • Conducts prospect research and recommend priorities in both Minnesota and North Dakota (based on mission-fit, deadlines, existing relationships etc.)
  • Compiles applicable grant applications and supporting materials
  • Meets with Program Officers/Community Relations professionals as applicable to build relations and gain invitations to submit grant proposals
  • Qualifies prospects based on ability to make funds available and affinity with BBB
  • Updates and maintains list of sponsorship targets, goals and timelines
  • Sets up and participates in sponsorship “ask” meetings or phone calls as designated
  • Reviews current corporate and individual donor plan; makes recommendations and implements changes/updates to meet goals and improve administrative efficiencies
  • Formalizes reporting and donor recognition procedures
  • Ensures public reporting of donors and sponsors is accurate and up-to-date on website and in annual report
  • Reviews current vehicle for accepting donations and make recommendations for alternatives to increase online giving

Qualified candidates will meet the following education and work experience requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with major in business or similar, such as Public Affairs required
  • Minimum of 3+ years development experience or applicable related experience, such as sales
  • Proven ability to successfully promote and solicit donations from new and existing audiences
  • Ability to identify prospects, manage donor relationships, design and implement cultivation and solicitation strategies and ensure follow-up activities and stewardship in a collaborative environment
  • Significant history in securing grants and sponsorships
  • Extensive knowledge of cultivation techniques and donor relations strategies
  • Experience providing leadership and results in targeted fundraising campaigns
  • Excellent writing skills, must have previous experience writing impactful proposals
  • Excellent record-keeping skills
  • Demonstrated interpersonal communication skills and success working with a team
