Our Boxer dog, Hassie, went into labor 6/21/2021 while we were in the Twin Cities for a family funeral. We live in Northern MN. Hassie delivered one puppy naturally then stopped. I took her to South Metro Animal Emergency at 6pm. After 6 hours they took her in for a C-section and 2 more puppies were delivered. She was quite cold after surgery so we didn't leave till 4am, bill was paid in full. Discharge instructions attached. 10 days later on 7/2/2021 we noticed her walking a few steps then laying down, gums and tongue pale and white, belly was jiggly like full of fluid. Immediately took her to our vet in Gonvick, MN (Cornerstone). Hemoglobin was 4.6 (normal 12-18), White blood count 24 (normal 5-17). He diagnosed her with post op bleeding and sent us to the Red River Valley Emergency Hospital in Fargo as they have a blood bank and can transfuse her. He told us if we had waited 2 hours she would have passed. In Fargo she was transfused with 1 1/2 units of blood. They aspirated some fluid from her belly and found it to be blood. They checked her to see if she had a blood clotting disorder but those labs were normal. They also stated she had a slow postoperative bleeding from her C-section/spaying. We have had numerous calls and emails with South Metro. Dr Wenum who did the surgery was quite arrogant and stated he'd never seen or heard of such a thing in 20 years. Infection and bleeding are the most common post op complications after a surgery. We have been emailing their CEO Jodi Harrod (attached). She originally offered to reduce our bill by 1198.00. We are willing to pay our South Metro bill, we are asking to be reimbursed for the expenses incurred due to the post op bleed which totaled 1612.97. She then mentioned that needed to be reviewed by the medical committee and if approved would cut a check. The last time she responded was in Nov 2021 when she apologized for the delay. We have attempted further emails and telephone calls with no response on their end.
