This is the most poorly built 1.2 million dollar home ever sold. They are supposed to be a custom builder but nothing about the process is custom. You have no choice in vendors and the quality is the lowest grade available from the dry wall to the framing to the heating systems. As an example, We recently discovered that they actually carpeted over one the heat vents in the floor of one of the kid’s bedroom. Nail pops continued appearing in the walls after the year warranty expired of course. More than 200 pops have been discovered essentially forcing us to repaint the entire house after only two years at our own expense. The cabinet maker is the worst grade they could find and they forced us to pay for replacing a garbage drawer that would NOT open - claiming it is the one we “Choose”. I could write ten pages listing all the problems but there is not enough space here. Suffice to say, the President Dean ****** is an incompetent leader woh has no communication skills and is paid to only sell homes not build them properly. He is not used to being challenged in any way, and has no idea how to meet customer needs. I had to appear everyday in the building process to be sure they were doing things right and almost everyday I reported items that were not being completed to specs from the countertops to the deck railing to the paint. Just an unbelievable waste of time and money. It will be impossible to ever recover our investment . I would NEVER recommend this organization. They have no idea how to build a truly custom/quality home. The one designer that employ spends virtually NO time designing and all her time either golfing or setting up other houses. She was nothing but a poor project manager who was incapable of listening and had not concern for our needs or lifestyle. My advice is run the other way. There are plenty of other builders

As the company president, you, your wife, and I worked together for over 6 weeks on the design of your custom home. This included many face-to-face meetings, phone calls, and emails. You were able to inspect our model home numerous times to view all of the products used in the construction process-everything from drywall, HVAC to custom cabinetry. When the purchase agreement was executed, you confirmed the home was a perfect match for your personal goals, family needs, and overall budget. You also agreed to the use of the products and providers as noted in the detailed project specifications and shown in the model home. In regard to working with our professional Interior Designer, your comment was that she spent “virtually no time designing” when in fact she completed 10+ appointments with you from July-September 2017 and had several additional meetings on behalf of your project. This totaled over 40 hours of her design time dedicated specifically to you and your custom home. During the 9-month build schedule, your home was supervised by a dedicated onsite Project Manager with 25+ years of experience as well as the Construction Manager who has an additional 40+ years of experience. Both take great pride in their work and addressed your questions as they arose. Your home was completed in March 2018. In the last 4 years, we have often been in communication with you about your ongoing requests and needs. Some items were within the Construction Industry Performance Standards and others were not. In every instance HBT team members have promptly responded to each request, as recently as just last week. We assure you that all of the products in your home meet if not exceed the strict MN Building Codes and Standards. Issues like nail pops are common due to the extreme MN weather conditions. As with all MN home builders, there is a protocol in place to address items of this nature for a specific period of time. The entire HBT Team takes pride in each and every custom home we have built over the last 17 years-and that includes yours.
