I had a bad experience overall with Sterling. Work was begun without a permit or land survey to verify property lines. Admittedly, I did not understand the importance of this, and I wish it was just company policy to get that done first despite whether the customer feels like they know where the property line is.Holes were dug and posts cemented into place in June, then our neighbor had a city inspector for their own project and he noticed work was being done without a permit. Most posts were in an illegal spot - some on our neighbor's property, some too close to the sidewalk, some too far into our yard. They damaged a sprinkler in our neighbor's yard. *********** did not alert us to this, but just dropped the sprinkler head in another part of the yard, which we found later. They declined to fix it or pay for it until my neighbor threatened legal action. At this point the biggest issue was communication with them, which slowed everything down. It took until the beginning of September to finally have the fence done. Mid summer we called about the need to backtrack, get a permit and survey, and make a plan to move the posts. Their proposed solution was to just cut off the posts at the ground and leave the cement in our neighbor's yard and everywhere else - absolutely not something we were ok with. We were so sick of dealing with them and trying to keep our toddler out of the road all summer that my husband ended up pulling out all the misplaced cement / posts (16 in all) himself using a few carjacks and a few days of intense labor.We agreed to leave the posts that were too far into the yard for simplicity. *********** did not have the consideration to fill the old holes with the dirt dug from the new holes, and we had to run out and stop them from trying to remove the wrong posts at one point. They didn't charge us for fixing the mistakes they had made.
