Complaint: Mis-leading customers with exaggerated statements Your Boat Club claims to have 8 locations on 34 lakes. On their website they name all of the `lakes' where they are located. Lake Minnetonka is one lake. Under the lake Minnetonka name they list small bays, which are called lakes and include them as part of the 34 `lakes' a consumer can use. The same thing on Prior Lake, they list Upper Prior Lake & Lower Prior Lake. It's one lake. The list can be seen on their website at yourboatclub.com/your-boat-club-marinas/. They have 8 locations on 8 lakes, not 34. It is all part of their marketing to make themselves seem much bigger than they are and consumers are being mislead into thinking they have 34 lakes to use. It's an incredibly sleazy form of marketing.
Desired Settlement: I am not asking for any settlement. They need to be truthful to consumers instead of appearing that they have so much more to offer to the consumer when, in reality they offer one fourth, (eight lakes, not thrity-four) of what they claim to offer.
Business Response: Initial Business Response /* (1000, 8, 2015/07/17) */ I am not sure how to be more clear. The most authoritative organization on Minnesota lakes is the MN DNR and I have listed their lake ID#s and links to information on each lake. There actually could be more but this is the conservative approach. We have 8 marinas from which you can pick up your boat and you can boat to all of the listed lakes and River, and we clearly state that on our website. If there are further questions I would be happy to discuss or even take a boat tour of these lakes with this individual. Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 10, 2015/07/17) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) In my opinion they are definitely stretching it. Why doesn't EVERY other boat rental place or marina that rents slips advertise multiple lakes instead of just one, (Lake Minnetonka). No one in the history of the lake has ever called it more than just Lake Minnetonka. A couple of the `lakes' that are listed are completely No Wake `lakes' during the entire open water season. So no, I do not want to take a boat tour of these `lakes' since it would take forever because they are no wake. I am very aware of the MN DNR. Forget about the formalities of the ID#'s of the `lakes'. I still claim YBC's advertising is mis-leading. When the news media does a story on Minnetonka do they name every `lake' on Minnetonka? No, just Minnetonka. Bottom line keep trying to squeeze juice out of a lemon and sugar coating it. Sooner or later the sugar is going to run out and it will all turn sour on them
