This unique hotel is hands down our favorite place to stay. Lovingly called " our hotel" in our home. We travel to the boxcar at least once a year. We just love ***** and her husband **** (the inn keepers) the decor is spot on and the structure is outstanding. 2 rows of boxcars on the rail tracks with an enclosed train platform to access your room. It's extremely clean and cozy. The rooms are surprisingly sound proof. We were there for not one but 3 extreme thunderstorms and being from *******, I asked where do we go in a tornado. ***** said well if we ever had one the basement of the depot but the area had a bit if magic to it and no matter how bad the storms are they seem to split and ****** right around the hotel. She was right. Although it was a bad storm, we hardly heard a thing. We lay in our bed, blinds open and watch the most amazing lighting show in the trees as we softly hear the heavy rain. If we weren't watching we wouldn't have known it was raining. The rooms are cool is the summer with your own controlled air and heat, some rooms have fireplaces. We often choose to stay in a full boxcar, giving us a full bathtub/shower bathroom, small kitchenette with fridge and microwave, a fireplace with living room and bedroom both. The smaller rooms are all themed and have shower bathrooms and no large living room but some have a couch and tables like a studio apartment would others just 2 queen **** or a bed and two wingback chairs and tables. During covid the rooms each had a small dining table and chairs or TV trays depending so we could eat in our room without worry. The grounds are amazing with small changes made each time we return. Seems ***** and **** are always making some sort of improvement. We can recommend this place to everyone we know and it wouldn't be enough. 10 stars for sure. For being rated as 3 star hotel, it should be more. It's off the beaten path but close to everything you want to see. 100% give it a try!!

I would like to take credit for the amazing lightning show but I'm afraid that was a little beyond my skill set. **** and I do try to make things as comfortable as possible while maintaining a level of cleanliness and safety that both of us and our guests are comfortable with. We continue to move forward with expanding amenities and this season is no exception. Two picnic areas with state park grills coming right up. Materials are onsite, utility lines are marked and now we just have to get everything installed. We need a little weather cooperation for the concrete work for the grills. Couldn't agree more with this review, well said. This place is so exceptional. My friends bought us a gift certificate to this place and it was perfect. Clean, cozy and we felt like we were staying with family not in a sterile corporate hotel. Its been a few years since we went but our freinds remind us often how we need to return soon now that covid is dying down. Truly in our top 5 hotels we loved to stay
