Complaint Category: None of the Above - Contract Complaint Issue
Complaint: I was overcharged by the owner of this company. I think he took advantage of me. He refused to write a receipt for my payment. He damage my driveway. I Call Brynt's company for an estimated on removing two middle size tree stumps and 5 smalls ones. Also to remove a storage wood house. He estimated the job in one thousand eight hundred eighty dollars. I asked him a better price he said no. Since I was not familiar with this type of job I let him do it; he started immediately. I was also in need to get the job done. I also though that will be complicated job. He spent less than 40 minutes removing the stumps. Then he pulled the wood house with a crane and almost felt in my neighbors yard and pool when he lift it up. I had to tell him that he had to stop because he was going to cut the TV cables and cause and accident I also told him that he should tear the house in pieces instead of lifting it up in order to load it up in the truck. When I complained he did what I told him. If I would not be home watching probably I would have had an accident in the house. I am thinking he wanted to sale the wood house and that is the reason he would not tear it down at front. Also I notice he damage my driveway (is a brick driveway) when he dragged his equipment around. I warning him that could happen but he told me the driveway will be OK. When I showed him the marks in the driveway he just denied that it was caused by him. He finished the job in about an hour o even less. At the end he told me he will take cash. I told him I wanted a receipt. He said he does not write receipts. I told him that I will write a check. I paid him because I wanted him out of my house. I was alone an as a women I always afraid of people like him. I wrote a check in the name of his company Brynt's professional tree service. He told me that He wanted the check on his name. **** ******. I just did it because I was scared and I wanted him to leave. When he left I had the felling I was wrapped off. I check online the prices of stump removal and obviously he overcharged me a lot. For one hour job almost 2.000 dollars, no receipt. However I have the copy of the check that he cashed. I also have the estimate that he wrote on the back of a business car 900, 500, 400, 4.8 but is hard to believe what he was charging for. When he was leaving he was trying to be friendly and ask me if I could recommend him to other people. I told him that I have some tree work to get done but he was too expensive. I told him I was cleaning the back yard because I am going to build a swimming pool. He asked me how much I was going to pay, and also he stated that I should talk to him because he has friends that are in the business and he will help me. I just wanted him to leave. I think he took advantage of me because I am a women and also because I am not fluent in English and he thought I had not clue.
Business Response RE: CASE ********** ***** *******
This is my final answer to this complaint.
i dont work by the hour. i bid each job accordingly. the following was done on this job: ground eight stumps ($100,000 plus for stump machine removed bricks and cement from backyard. trimmed limbs out of oak tree. cut back privet hedge. removed 9 x 12 wooden barn bldg., with shingle roof, which had to be disposed of at two seperate dump sites due to shingles.
total job took around six hours, not necessarily at her house, but total time put into job. its impossible for another tree company to go behind someone elses job and make a bid on work already done. needed check made out to me so i could pay dump fees. i gave her a receipt the day job was completed. will not issue another one. i hope this satisfies mrs. *******, as this matter is closed as far as im concerned.
thank you. **** ******/president XXX-XXX-XXXX
