In response to the Mr.******'s complaint to the BBB,
A transmission problem is unrelated to the engine replacement that was done in our shop. Note that this is the first we have heard of any problems or complaints from the customer and he has failed to contact us at this point or to bring the vehicle back for further inspection.
We do check all fluid levels and top them off as needed whenever service work is performed. In this particular case, the service manager himself road tested the vehicle and double checked the completed work after the assigned technician completed his work, for an additional final check before returning the vehicle to the customer. The service manager did note that the transmission was not shifting properly due to a low fluid condition. He then topped off the transmission fluid and the transmission problem went away with he correct fluid level. We can confirm that when the vehicle left our shop, the transmission fluid was full and it was shifting normally. We also noted on the ticket the additional needed repairs to the vehicle that the customer declined at the time. If the transmission is having problems, it is an additional needed repair that is unrelated to the engine job. We would be happy to provide the BBB with a copy of the invoice from the repair s completed and the noted additional recommendations listed on that ticket if the customer has not already done so. We again want to emphasize that this is the first we have heard of a complaint from the customer. We have not received any form of communication from the customer expressing any sort of problems, concerns, or questions at this time other than this notification from you, the BBB. Please let us know if any further information or documentation is needed from us as we will be happy to provide it. Thank you.
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Upon delivery of my vehicle, it was not explained nor a concern that they had a problem with the transmission slipping. On June 25 I contacted and spoke to *** ****** about the problem, his response was to put transmission fluid in it and drive it up there. I was not about to drive a truck with one gear anywhere. I also have the original receipt which only stated the vehicle needed brakes and front-end alignment and i have the receipt if you would like it faxed to you. I would not have driven the vehicle off the lot had i known the transmission was faulty and i would have let them do the work plus i had the cash on hand to put a brand new transmission in it!!!! They were contacted and they did not even offer to pull the truck back which was much safer.
Final Business Response
As noted before, the transmission fluid was full and the transmission was shifting/operating normally when it was delivered to the customer.
The only transmission shifting issue that occurred while the vehicle was in our shop was found to be due to a low fluid level, as it went away after the fluid level was adjusted/corrected. The transmission not shifting properly due to low fluid level is not an indication of a failed transmission, and therefore we did not recommend additional repairs at that time.
Note that we did inspect the transmission for fluid leaks after topping off the fluid level and did not find any.
Also, transmission fluid replacement is not required for, or even related to an engine replacement(the repair we did ). Topping off fluids is not to be confused with replacing and or flushing the fluid and is generally done as a courtesy to customers. Not fully servicing or CHANGING the fluids of a transmission that is working properly does not obligate us for any future repairs the transmission may need. We do warranty the parts we replace, and we also offer a tow service upon request. We would have been happy to inspect the transmission and/or do the needed repairs had the customer chosen to give us the opportunity to do so at the time the transmission problems started.
We seek to provide our customers with as many answers and accurate recommendations as we can possibly provide based on the customer's initial complaints, and we try to note any other noticeable needed repairs at the time the car is brought in. We feel we did the work that was agreed upon for this vehicle and did not see the need for a transmission replacement when the vehicle left our shop-if we did, we would have recommended one and welcomed the additional opportunity to work on the vehicle.
