Castaway on Exile Island

September 03, 2010

I am in a wacky phase in life.  I don't know why but I am just all crazy over little children.  It could be that my own children blessed me with 3 beautiful granddaughters.

My business discussions come to an immediate halt if a small child or baby comes into my peripheral vision.  I keep small toys in my office just in case someone comes in with their little one in tow.

So it was of no surprise when asked by the Children's Wish Foundation to become an event participant for a fundraising challenge named "Exile Island", I jumped on the opportunity immediately.  I am pretty sure Tom Leslie, Chapter Event Coordinator, Children’s Wish Foundation, thought maybe I thought I had won a prize.  My enthusiasm upon receiving his phone call left him a bit shaky.  He had just given me a wonderful gift – I have been given the opportunity to reach out and learn from children that don’t have the quality of life my three granddaughters currently enjoy with such ease.  They are often surrounded with ongoing pain, hospital visits, and other challenges that make it hard just to go outside and play.

So if you want to enjoy a really inspiring event, dedicated to children with life-threatening illnesses and their amazing families, join me at the Vancouver Art Gallery, September 22nd at 12 noon.  I will be one of 10 “castaways” faced with all types of challenges to get off of “Exile Island”.  I will be partnered with a child who has a wish he or she would like fulfilled – we will work together to get through the challenges to be able to grant that wish!

One wish to be granted for these children costs $10,000.  Part of my challenge is to raise $10,000 by September 22nd so that I can make their wish come true.

I am halfway there today – September 23rd.  Help me get the other half and even more.  Visit and click on the Vancouver area.  Go to “The Tribes”, select Lynda Pasacreta and donate.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
