Complaint Category: Sales presentation used dishonest sales practices

Complaint: Inflated replacement cost of tires. ******** offered a 50% adjustment on tire replacement.
Noticed severe side wall cracking on my vehicle tires on **************. Called ******** Canada on ************** who made a appointment with City Tire & Auto in *************** for **************. Went to City Tire & Auto, *************** on ************** to have my tires inspected. Tires were inspected and ******** offered a 50% adjustment on tire replacement. City Tire & Auto, *************** quoted my cost replacement at $813.15 which means total cost if I had to pay full price would be $1626.30. I knew this was a inflated price and told them so. Was told that this was the price if I wanted the tires replaced. I chose not to accept this and left with my old tires. Priced the very same tires that day at ************************* at $1011.80, **************** at $1192.69, and************ ***************** at $1355.67. I also phoned the next closest ******** dealer in ********** which is also City Tire & Auto and got a price of $1312.38 for the same tires. I phoned ******** Canada back and told them all of this. I also told them that I felt scammed by City Tire & Auto,************ and that I made a 110km round trip to************ that day for nothing. Was told by ******** Canada that if I wanted to go with their offer which according to them was generous, I had to have new tires at City Tire & Auto, *************** at price they quoted. I feel conned by both City Tire & Auto, *************** and ******** Canada. Made a special trip to************ on ************** to have tires checked out and replaced which cost me $40 in gas. Old tires have less than 30,000km and should not have to be replaced yet. I believe tires were defective and should of been replaced free of charge instead of trying to rip me off.

The tires I priced else where were the same tires and not alternatives. Have two quotes in writing and the other quotes were by phone. All quotes were hundreds of dollars less than the inflated priced given by your business. Your business should already have a copy of original purchase invoice from visit to have tires inspected.

Your mileage estimate may be correct but this is the first time you mentioned having two sets of tires. The tires are more than six years old.
Re-read my last post.
******** agreed to pay 50% of City Tire's selling price of the tire. Our selling price is $292 as you have noted on the adjustment form. It is approximately 3% higher than the $280.69 price *******'s quoted you. Is that what you consider an inflated price? The adjusted price would be $146 each. All labour, road hazards, levies and taxes are extra.
Had you paid full price it would have been $1473.43 with install/balance, road hazard, tire levy and hst included not $1600 as you have mentioned twice.
You did not send a copy of the quote from ****** so we can not be sure of what was quoted but as I mentioned before, if it was tires only plus hst the price would be correct for $292 each.
The offer of 50% of City Tire's selling price may still be arranged if you wish.

To start with, I have two sets of tires and rims so your estimated mileage should be cut in half. Whatever the case, ******** agreed to pay 50% of replacement cost of tires which **************** *********** decided to used to their advantage. I was quoted a inflated price by **************** *********** and when I request the quote in writing they refused to do so. That's when I knew I was being taken advantage of and decided to get quotes at other dealerships. I even got a quote at ****** City Tire & Auto which was significantly cheaper. Whatever the outcome of this case, the fact is that **************** *********** tried to take advantage of the situation and rip me off. Over $1600 to replace four tires is crazy. I now have ********* tires on my vehicle which only cost me a little over $900 which are far superior to the ******** tires I had on my vehicle.

Complaint Resolution: BBB determined that despite the company's reasonable effort to address complaint issues, the consumer remained dissatisfied.
